callisto : the gazing moon
- isolated away from the nearby villages lay a forest of plants quick to wilt, once blooming in large numbers. amidst a small clearing, a forgotten wishing well and an abandoned observatory rots as the winding fingers of nature slowly reclaim the materials, day by day, night by night, only ever slowed by the lone fable who resides there, forever fated to wander the grounds in lonely silence.
there was a time where merchants would dock their carts outside the observatory when they couldn't reach a village by night, exhausted and hungry, making acquaintances with the one resident there. but slowly, through rumours and hushed words, callisto's theft didn't go unnoticed. now, the villages whisper their name, and the merchants don't shortcut their routes, sometimes adding on days of travel to their journeys. no one is really sure how far the perimeter of callisto's wandering goes, but ignoring the chatters of theft, curse, and sickness would render you foolish not to try and avoid it.
perhaps its childish wonder for callisto to spend their time staring down the wishing well into its water, when their wings could lift them into the sky. others know better, for their eyes are always locked onto the same distant gleam in the night; Jupiter. young fables who have wandered through the forest, either by dares or curiosity, have heard the gazing moon speak to the water in the well—softy, quietly, barely at all—in long, sorrowful philosophies, filled with a sense of longing and fading hope.
