New trait: Wings, split into two categories: rare small wings and legendary large wingsSomething I see in a lot of buttermilks is wing markings. Who could blame us? Wings are common traits in oc designs for a reason: they're super duper awesome and they can spice up a design. Let's look around at buttermilks: there's already so many vibrant and wonderful designs, I think it's time we embrace buttermilks as sparkle cows and let these cows have wings!
That being said, rather than just a flat trait I think it'd be more interesting to give the wings some gameplay texture and split the trait between rarities. Much as there are uncommon and rare horn and switch edits or common and uncommon hair edits, I'm electing to split the trait between rare and legendary along size lines. Why along size? Simple: smaller, flightless rare wings has the same wow factor as, say, a rare unicorn horn - a treat to have and something to look forwards to, sure, but a small awesome treat. Compare that to a legendary cow like Azrafell (#1100) and wouldn't you just want to throw some big ol' wings on that dragon? That's truly impressive, and thus why large wings work best as a legendary trait.
I would also suggest the caveat that the wings have to be something physical, attached to the cow. Things like bird wings, butterfly wings, bat wings, dragon wings, etc are all fine, but floating chibi wings or wings made out of fire or something are just far enough in to the fantastical realm that they feel more like mythic traits.
Lastly, I would suggest that the wings can only sprout out of the shoulder blades; no head wings or butt wings allowed. I think it allows for more cohesion that way. However, they can be drawn folded!
Do note that these are all suggestions; you're more than welcome to change things as needed!
Rare - small wingsRare wings are small, flightless things. They can be as detailed as you like but they can't be taller than the buttermilk's head nor more than half the back in width. The idea is that they're a cute accent that adds some fanciful elements without being the main focus of the piece. Also, bonus with this being a rare trait: an RAO could be used to introduce actual wings into lineages with notable wing markings, thus making them even more awesome and freeing up shoulder space on the canvas for something new.
Legendary - large wingsOn the contrary, legendary wings can be as big as you like. Spread across the canvas? Yes please! Bigger than the canvas? Why not? These bad boys only show up on a few cows anyways, so they can be an impressive showpiece all they like. I figure these wings are the main focus of the cow design. These wings bring all the boys to the yard, or the users to the milestone cow at any rate.
