first, I want to say that I've heard the interest in the species from the community. a few of you have dmed me recently asking about the status of boers or with an interest in acquiring them. I think it's great that you're still so interested in these adopts after so long! I wish I had better news that the species was reopening today or that I was willing to part with them, but I do have some positive news.
I took a break from working on boers until a few months ago, and now it's become a passion project of mine to see this to completion as a fully reopened species. boers officially have a new genetics system that's just about done!! so here's a little sneak peak of what's to come with a few rolls from spaniels in my kennel ♡ I've already assigned most of the existing boers with phenotypes in the new archive, so now comes the daunting task of giving them all genotypes to match
next, it's pretty clear that I bit off more than I could chew running this species in the past. I had big ideas with no actual way of achieving them. adding a genetics system and creating an entire ARPG from scratch was too overwhelming for one person with problems delegating tasks to other people. I couldn't meet the deadlines I set for myself and felt like a failure that had to disappear to avoid facing the community. now that I'm older, I'm letting go of expectations and accepting that it's okay to mess up sometimes and to do this at my own pace. I want to foster a small community of people who care about boers, even if that means we go slow and take our time getting settled again.
step one is accomplishing what I actually want this species to be — an outlet for my passion of dog coat color genetics, but something that you don't need to know genetics to enjoy. once the genetics system and guides are in place, we'll reopen for adopts. the nursery can reopen after we get settled there. I don't want the ARPG to be a main focus of this species anymore, and to be honest, I don't know if I could even call it an ARPG anymore. I think maybe just writing or drawing your boers to win medals, MYOs, etc is a more manageable idea? we'll see,,,
additionally, I wanted to let y'all know that a few things are going to be slightly different when the nursery does end up reopening. boers will have unlimited breeding slots. there will be a public stud list of boers you can breed with for free. users can also charge pets, C$, art, any sort of trade to sell slots if they wish. and I want things to be as straightforward as possible to avoid users getting into arguments about who gets what, so the person posting the form in the nursery will be the one with the slot reserved in their name. they'll get all of the pups — it's up to them if they want to give any away to other users.
another change that's coming is that I think it's pointless to have items for accessories. you should be able to add accessories to your boers whenever you want, idk what I was thinking back then!! if you've purchased any of those, even if you've already used them, I'm gonna convert those to MYOs/customs!!! I'll have to go back and see who has what, but I'll let everyone know more details on that later as well. I want this to be fun and not annoying for y'all
there's still a lot of work that needs to be done AND I'm currently working full time so I can't give any concrete date for reopening, but I just want y'all to know that I still care about this species a lot. I want to be open about my progress to start rebuilding this lovely community again. aside from the few people who have messaged me, I wonder how many of you are still here on CS,,,,are my old friends doing well? do you remember your boers?
