Buttermilk B1100

Happy B1100!
Taurean x ???

edits:
- [c] expression
- [uc] heterochromia
- [uc] horns
- [l] full body fluff

On a crisp cold night, Taurean emerges out of the dense fog running. He pauses to look behind him and a calf appears behind him. He notices you and approaches, near out of breath.
"This calf unexpectedly lost her mother and needs a safe place to stay for the night. Would you be willing to take her in?" Taurean looks at you, clearly upset and shocked by whatever has happened.
---
Once the calf has fallen asleep in the safety of your care, Taurean asks to speak with you.
"As much as I want to assume responsibility over this young heifer, I feel as if I will not be a proper guardian. Perhaps you, or someone you know could take her in?"

To win this buttermilk, you may choose a cow from your barn(or mine, if you do not own a buttermilk) to suggest to Taurean.
You may make this recommendation via writing, art, slideshows, websites, however you think it is best to prove to Taurean that this cow is the best suited guardian for his young calf. If writing, please keep to a max of 1000 words <3

Name: Bowie
Collar: Something similar but not exactly the same as Bodhi's, even if it's just same color!
Prompt:
It is not unusual for Bodhi's past to come back to haunt him. The cold nights alone initially, even as he was just taking his first steps into this world. Abandoned. Isolated. Feeling ashamed of himself at such a young and precious age. Was it his fault he was tossed away like garbage? While thoughts like this plagued his mind less and less as an adult, they did creep in like shadows in the night to ruin his day.

It was easy to move past these thoughts, however. Though an orphan after being abandoned, Belle of the Buttermilk Babies barn found Bodhi and took him in as her own. She had always wanted to be a mother, and she could not have thought of a better son than Bodhi. Because of her, Bodhi was able to grow up to have a normal childhood. Not just normal, a fun and happy one at that. Bodhi and Belle to this day have a strong mother/son relationship, and they care for one another in a way that blood relatives do not. Bodhi treasures his adoptive mother as his most valuable gift in life, and is forever grateful for her selflessness and sacrifices.

Something that always puzzled Bodhi was how he could be more like his mother. He always did his best to step up and lend a helping hand when needed, but he always wanted to do more, almost as a way to show Belle how deep his respect for her is. He always reminded his mom how much he loved her, but was that enough?

When Bodhi found out about a young calf in need of a home, he had to stop himself from being too impulsive. While he immediately wanted to say yes to taking them in, he wondered, was this doing right by the calf? He had never been a father before, that was a lot of responsibility to take on. Would he even know how to be a father? He had his mother to look to for guidance if he needed help, which did help ease his mind.

Is it frowned upon for a bull to be taking on a calf rather than a heifer? Bodhi has never been one to follow gender roles too closely. He enjoys helping his mother cook, clean, shop, and really whatever else needs to be done. There was a possibility of a stigma though, and harsh judgement from other Buttermilks. Would Bodhi's ability to care for the calf be scrutinized because he was a bull? What a silly thought though. A bull is a better caregiver than no caregiver at all!

What if this calf didn't like him? This was a question that Bodhi could not answer for himself. But how could Bodhi not take in the calf, searching for a home, for love, and for a dedicated caregiver, just like he had been all those years ago?

Bodhi's large heart compelled him to follow through with the decision to take in this calf as his own daughter. He could barely contain his excitement going to meet her for the first time. When their eyes met, Bodhi was taken aback by the calf's unusually vibrant and fluffy coat. The emotions were already welling up; Bodhi was fighting back tears as he greeted the calf, asking if they could embrace in a hug. The calf agreed, and the two held each other tightly.

"Hey there kiddo" Bodhi smiled, voice still shaking with emotion. "If it's alright with you, I'd like to be your dad. What do you say?".

The calf smiled and nodded. The two met for another embrace, and a lot more happy tears.

"We have to figure out what to call you now. Well, my name is Bodhi, and your grandma is Belle. How does Bowie sound?".

Another excited nod and smile. The young calf mimicked Bodhi in her squeaky baby voice. "Bowie, Bowie, Bowie!"

Bodhi beamed with pride. He couldn't believe this precious baby was... his. He was determined to give Bowie the best life he possibly could, just like Belle had done for him. He couldn't wait for all of the memories the three would build together, his growing family.

"Alright Bowie. Let's get you home. We'll get settled and then we can meet your grandma."

Bodhi held out his hoof for her, Bowie smiling and grasping it in hers, skipping along as Bodhi walked. He was ready for this chapter, and knew he was willing to do whatever it took to keep Bowie safe and happy. He turned around before leaving towards Taurean, who had been silent the entire time. "Sir, I can't thank you enough for trusting me with this absolute gift. I promise that she is going to be my world."

Name: Viola
Collar: something butterfly themed if possible
Prompt: Monarch | Kalila | Asteroid

In the heart of a sun-kissed paddock, birds chirped merrily overhead, and butterflies danced gracefully among the colorful wildflowers that dotted the landscape. Monarch bounded after butterflies, her hooves thudding against the soft earth. Each leap sent ripples of excitement through her body, and she reveled in the freedom of the moment, momentarily forgetting about responsibilities. Her ears twitched as a voice echoed across the paddock causing her to freeze mid-stride. “MONARCH!”. She turned reluctantly towards the barn where Asteroid, stood a frown etched across her face. The sight of Asteroid’s flushed cheeks and furrowed brow made Monarch’s heart sink.

“Where have you been? You didn’t finish clearing your stall!” Asteroid's voice was firm but tinged with concern. Monarch dramatically flopped onto the ground, stirring up dust and hay in protest. “But that’s so boring!” she mumbled into the grass, wishing for nothing more than to chase butterflies until dusk. Asteroid sighed deeply, her shoulders slumping as she approached Monarch. “One day you’re going to have to grow up,” she said softly but firmly. “Now go clean your stall, and then you can do whatever you wish.”

Asteroid watched as Monarch ambled away, the soft rustle of hay swirling with each step. The peacefulness of the pasture was suddenly interrupted by a small cough that drew her attention. Turning towards the sound, she was met by a large bull with warm eyes and a friendly smile.

“Excuse me, ma’am. My name's Tauren,” he introduced himself, his voice deep yet gentle.

“Asteroid,” she replied with a welcoming nod. “I’m the leader of this herd.”

“Nice to meet you,” Tauren said, shifting his weight slightly as if gathering courage. “I was wondering if you might have room for an orphan?”

Asteroid’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Aren’t you too big to be considered an orphan?” she asked playfully.

Tauren let out a hearty chuckle that echoed across the field before sidestepping to reveal a small purple heifer peeking out shyly from behind him. “This is Viola,” he said softly, concern lacing his voice. “She is still timid and unsure of everything. Could you take her in even if it’s just temporarily? “ Asteroid’s heart melted at the sight of Viola, who trembled slightly under Tauren's protective shadow. Kneeling down to meet the little one at eye level, Asteroid spoke softly, her voice like a warm breeze on a summer day. “Hi Viola, I’m Asteroid.” Viola let out a tiny squeak in response but quickly hid behind Tauren again, her wide eyes filled with uncertainty.

“Of course we will take her in, she can sleep in my stall until she is settled,” Asteroid assured as she rose back up. Tauren watched as she led Viola into the stables softly talking to heifer trying to reassure her.

Night crept in faster than expected and Monarch found herself lost in thought as she mulled over the news of a new heifer joining their herd. A small noise soon broke through her thoughts, the unmistakable growls of wolves. Silently she rose as she padded towards the entrance. She stopped frozen in place as she saw the wolves circling around something in the paddock. Suddenly panic surged through her; she saw flashes of purple amidst the grey forms. Without hesitation, she charged forward, instinct taking over as she lowered her head and collided with one wolf sending it sprawling away with a yelp. “Stay back!” she bellowed fiercely as she stood over Viola, who quivered beneath her protective stance. Monarch kicked and bucked fiercely at any wolf that dared approach. With every ounce of strength waning from her body, she bellowed into the night for help. Just as she was losing hope, the sound of pounding hooves echoed through the darkened landscape; her herd was coming! The wolves hesitated and then retreated into the shadows of the forest as relief washed over Monarch.

“Kalila! Take Viola inside and make sure she's alright,” Asteroid commanded softly yet firmly. Breathing heavily from exertion but yet filled with an unshakeable determination, Monarch turned to Asteroid. “Mother… can Viola stay?” She found courage building within her.

Asteroid sat beside her daughter, gazing at the stars that twinkled above them. “I don’t know; everyone’s busy with their roles,” she sighed.

“I’ll watch her!” Monarch declared passionately. “You said I have to grow up one day; tonight proved I can handle it!!”

Asteroid regarded her daughter thoughtfully before responding gently but firmly “Motherhood isn’t just about protection; it’s nurturing through challenges that will test you beyond your limits—you’ll face many hardships along that path.”

Monarch gazed up at the vastness above as the stars danced in the night. She spoke with unwavering determination: “I think I am prepared! There are other mothers in our herd if I need advice or guidance.”

A smile broke across her face as an idea sparked within “Plus” she added playfully while nudging Asteroid’s side gently with affection “I think you’d make a wonderful aunt! Please just think about it overnight?”

Asteroid huffed but couldn’t suppress a smile at her daughter’s enthusiasm. “Fine… I’ll think about it,” she conceded before nudging Monarch gently toward safety.

The warmth of the sun streamed through the stable window as Monarch stirred awake. Her heart raced with anticipation as her mother, Asteroid, stood before her with a thoughtful expression.

“I’ve thought deeply about it,” Asteroid began, her voice steady but warm. “If you’re serious enough… she can stay.”

Monarch’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Of course I’m very serious!” she exclaimed her excitement bubbling over as she darted out of the barn. She couldn’t wait to share the news with Viola. Outside in the meadow, Monarch found Viola standing quietly amidst a sea of wildflowers. Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, Monarch knelt down to meet Viola’s gaze. “Hi Viola,” she said softly, “my name is Monarch. I was wondering if you would like me to become your mother?” For a heartbeat, time seemed to stand still as Viola processed this unexpected offer. Then, without warning, she barreled into Monarch’s embrace, wrapping her hooves around her tightly and whispering a soft “yes.”

Asteroid watched from afar when Tauren appeared beside her.

“Morning,” he greeted warmly. “I’ve come for Viola; I think I’ve found a home for her.” he spoke.

Asteroid turned to him thoughtfully before replying, “If it’s okay with you…” She paused briefly to watch Monarch and Viola as they chased after butterflies. “…I’d like for her to stay.”

Name: Vega
Collar: star themed
Prompt: Celeste
It was a windy day at Strawberry Rose farm and the herd was grazing under the cloudy sky. The new calves were frolicking about, still learning how to use their legs. They chased each other around, kicking up dust and dirt in their wake. “Watch out!” Celeste called out as they weaved around her and through her legs. One young tawny calf in pursuit of another tripped and rolled towards the pasture gate. She laughed with her friends as she placed her wobbly legs beneath her, only to sink back down in shock as she looked up.

A fluffy bull approached the gate, with an equally fluffy calf closely following. She looked scared but curious enough to continue peering through her guardian’s legs as he strode forward. The calves ran back towards the barn, alerting the herd to the stranger at the gate. A few older mothers walked towards the bull as he introduced himself and told the herd he was looking for a safe place for the calf to stay. Somewhere she could grow up.
The herd leaders were quiet for a few moments. “While we would love to have a new addition, our mothers have their hands full with the newest spring babies. I’m not sure any of us have the time for what she needs.”

The bull sighed, and with a soft smile looked down at the calf with resignation. Celeste couldn’t let them leave! She had had two calves of her own, now grown and living their own lives. She didn’t like being an empty nester.
She ran forward to the visitors. “Wait! I can look after her!” She turned towards the herd leaders. “Please, don’t send them away, I don’t have my own calf, I can take this little one in as my own.”
“Are you sure?” one mother asked. “Yes, positive. I know what I’m doing.”
“Ok, then” another heifer said, “Celeste will adopt this calf of yours if you still want to leave her in our care.”
Taurean turned towards the calf, speaking so softly Celeste couldn’t hear what he was saying. A few moments later he lifted his head, nodded towards the herd, and walked back the way he came, leaving the calf standing at the gate. She looked a bit bewildered, so Celeste opened the gate and guided her in. “You can sleep in my stall tonight.”

The next day, the fluffy calf no longer looked scared but confused. She sat and stared at Celeste, who looked back equally as confused every couple of minutes, feeling the calf’s eyes on her. Celeste didn’t want to judge a book by its cover, but she thought their shared unique hue would be a good starting point and something they could bond over.
“So…your purple, like me! It’s nice to meet another cow who stands out on her own!”
The calf narrowed her eyes a bit. Is she judging me? Celeste thought to herself.
“Do you want to tell me about where you came from? I’d love to hear about it. But only if you want to. Don’t feel pressured to talk to me. Well, I’d like it if we could talk to get to know each other. Especially now that I’m your new guardian. I grew up on this farm. I think you’ll like it!”
This is silly, why are you asking this calf who just got here about her whole life story!
Celeste continued rambling but raised her head when the calf stood up. She perked up her ears in hopes that she would share something, but the calf just blinked, moved to a sunnier spot in the grass, and laid down. Celeste sighed, hoping she hadn’t ruined her first impression as a mom.
She decided to take one more chance and took a few steps towards the calf, “Could you tell me your name? Or, if you don’t have one, we can think of one together.” The calf looked up at her. “I don’t have a name.”
Celeste smiled, “that’s ok, we’ll pick one out.” Maybe she’s finally warming up to me!
Celeste began going through all the names she could think of. She was nearing the end of the alphabet when the calf perked up. “Yes, that one! I like that one.”
“It’s settled then! It is very nice to meet you Vega.”

Prompt: Featuring: Ghostly, Cookie, Aine & Socks

Pausing for a moment to catch her breath after the fright of a stranger appearing in the darkness. Ghostly thinks for a moment before replying. “I am no mother myself, but I think I know just the cow right for this task. Please, come, follow me back to our village.” Padding along the small path in the forest with Ghostly leading the way, she looks back to the calf, shivering and miserable. “My sister is the kindest soul I know, nothing in this world could come between her and her children. They are her everything.” After some time trodding through the brush, they come to a clearing. The moon was bright, lingering peacefully above the waterfall overlooking the village. The little town glowed quietly in the dark of the night. Ghostly led Tauren and the calf to one of the houses. “Please wait here, I’ll be but a moment.” Before she had a chance to take another step the door swung open and a figure appeared from inside. “Mother and Him aren’t home, what do you want?”

Ghostly’s face crumpled up, clearly irritated by the tone. “Cookie this is no time to be rude, this is an emergency. Where is Socks?” Cookie looked over her aunt's shoulder and noticed the calf peering out from behind Tauren. Her hospitality quickly diminishes. “I’m sorry Auntie Ghost, please come in, everyone.” Once inside Cookie retrieves a blanket from one of the rooms. “Here sweetheart, you must be freezing! What on earth happened?” Tauren says nothing as the calf stares somberly into the floor. “I don’t have time for this, Cookie where is your mother?” Cookie meets her aunt by the door and explains where her mother should be. Ghostly leaves promptly, leaving Cookie alone with the calf and Tauren.

She heads over and makes herself comfortable next to the calf. “Look kid, you’re going to love it here, my mom's seriously the best. I wasn’t always the easiest calf to raise. I held a lot of resentment toward my mom for leaving my dad and bringing me out here. It ain’t easy being the new kid in town. I was a brat. I would constantly throw tantrums and run away from home. I screamed, I sweared, I-I hated it here. But mom, she never gave up. She loved me no matter what. She would tuck me in every night, even when I screamed I hated her. She has the patience of a saint.” Cookie looked up, proud but teary-eyed. “I was so blinded by my anger, that I didn’t even raise my daughter. I was stupid, I messed around and found out the hard way. I put a lot on Mom, ya know? My daughter was only a couple of weeks old and I left, I left her here with mom. But mom, she wasn’t angry. She treated Bullet like her own kid. She never gave up on us and never held a grudge. The day I finally came home, who knows how long it was. Years probably, she acted like I’d never left. She took me back into her loving embrace and welcomed me into her home. I have a lot of regrets.” She then paused for a moment before coming to a stark realization. “Sorry for trauma dumping on you kiddo, what I mean to say is. You’re going to love it here, and moms going to love you, no matter what or who you are. No matter who or what you turn out to be. She loves unconditionally, I just wish I could do the same.” She sighed and stood up. “Y’all want anything to eat?”

The hours pass, and it is now near morning. The calf is sound asleep after having a light dinner thanks to Cookie. Ghostly comes back through the front door with Socks, and her husband Aine. Socks and Ghostly stay outside while Ghostly fills her in on the situation. Aine comes in and smiles gently at the calf before turning his gaze over to Tauren. “Hey man, long night huh?” Before Tauren could get a word out Aine butts in. “Yeah I get it, we’re used to that around here. “Socks, she’s something else man. She can nurse a wild animal back from the dead. Kids, they love her, and she loves them. We’ve raised our fair share of kiddos. We’re no strangers to orphans. It’s incredible really, the imagination of a child. They make life so exciting in every aspect. Every holiday feels so special and full of life with kids around. Socks helped me to realize. All that ‘Christmas magic’ you feel as a kid, is really just a mother that loves you so very much. You did the right thing bringing her here.” With that, Aine nods his head to Tauren. He turns and moves away as Socks and Ghostly come inside.

Socks walks quietly over to where the calf and Taurean are, sure as to not wake her. “She’s precious, poor thing. Nobody deserves such a fate so young.” Socks takes a seat beside her and gently stokes her while humming a soothing melody. “Precious angel, despite it all you’re going to do amazing things one day. You’ll grow into exactly who you want to be.” The calf yawns and turns to face Socks. Her sleepy eyes were full of wonder. “What you’ve been through doesn’t have to define who you are, you remember that. You can carve any destiny out of the stone of life. Or, you can take a backseat and enjoy the journey. Looking back I would’ve never guessed I’d be where I am today. I had my whole life figured out before it even began. Children were always an afterthought. But plans changed and my daughter arrived at my darkest hour. What I thought would be the end of my life was only just the beginning. She changed my entire outlook on what life was meant to be. When she looked into my eyes that first time. She saved me, and brought the light back into my life.” She smiles gently and turns to look at Taurean. “Children are not a gift to those who have them. They are an experience all of their own. Those who choose to take that path are not always rewarded. But taught a lesson. The universe has a strange way of shaping each and every one of us.”

She smiles gently. “The choice is yours to make, but she’s safe here with us.”
