Prompt: Jennifer was originally considered to be a problem child within the group. Often either butting heads with or refusing to listen to anyone who tried to mentor her. But
Colton saw through that. He saw someone who was alone, scared, frustrated and simply misunderstood.
Someone like him.
When Colton first started teaching her, she treated him like any other potential mentor. But nothing she did seemed to discourage him, in fact he seemed to welcome the challenge. Leading her to realize that he wasn't like the others who came before him. He was nothing but calm and patient when trying to teach her on how to hunt, fight, scout, know what herbs to look out for, etc. Even trying to help her befriend some of the others in their group.
But most importantly he never got mad or frustrated with her when she got something wrong, and would even go out of his way to give her some space should she ask for it. Not to mention the couple of times he stood up for her or defended her from others. It was through these interactions that would slowly cause her to open up to him and vice versa. With Jennifer learning that she has a lot more in common with her mentor than she originally thought she did.
Since then Jennifer has gained a deep respect for her mentor. She appreciates the fact that he isn't afraid to sometimes give her a challenge or offer suggestions on how she can further improve her skills. She also won't hesitate to pick a fight with anyone who dares try to insult the one cat who never gave up on her. Much to Colton's amusement. But ultimately she's just glad to finally have someone she can confide in and trust.
By the end of the day many within the group would agree that Colton and Jennifer's relationship is far more similar to that of a father and daughter, rather than that of a mentor and apprentice.
