Prompt:
Sue was terrified of humans for the longest time, recalling times when campers or hikers would make scary sounds at her when she got too close to their tents or bags, some of them even bluff charging her to scare her away from their food and water.
She saw them rope and take her herdmates away somewhere she never saw them again and some of them even followed her for long distances, making her uneasy and wondering if they would put ropes on her and take her away too, and eventually her worst fear came true.
She found herself surrounded by humans in a new place she had never seen or been before and she was terrified.
Sue would scream and cry out whenever a human came near her, the terror and fear making her heart race and her legs fold out from underneath her, there were times when she would kick the doors to her enclosure to try to escape and other times where she would try to run and got so close to escaping, only to be captured again.
One day, a small human came in to see Sue and sat with her for a while, letting her calm down and smell her, she spoke gently to Sue and eventually the mare even took some oats from her palm.
For several days this human came and did the same thing over and over, and eventually she even got to pet Sue, running her hands over the mare's beautiful and unique coat.
Sue began to look forward to seeing this human and began to let other humans lead her to her as she stood outside, Sue instantly recognizing her and running up to greet her.
It didn't take long for Sue to realize that she was wrong, that not all humans wanted to hurt her and that perhaps the ones that put the ropes on her and led her here were actually trying to help her.
Sue even willingly got in the girl's trailer and allowed her to drive her somewhere new just as long as she could be by her.
Sue bonded with her and eventually learned this girl's name was Hailey, and that she had requested to work with and potentially even adopt Sue and allow her to roam free at the ranch she worked at.
Sue now knows that there are many people like Hailey, and that she is cared for and loved and that she can trust people, she sees humans now as companions and caretakers who help horses and other animals and sometimes can save their lives.
