Prompt:
Hunter was a rather aggressive stallion when he was wild, he knew that nothing he had came without fighting for it every single day, and that even once he finally got it that it could be taken away from him at any moment, so it's safe to say that he had few friends.
He never let anyone get too close to him, he knew that they could leave him for a different herd at the drop of a hat, become lost to the harsh and unforgiving world around them or even turn against him at the drop of a hat, so he kept everyone at a distance- Everyone except Bruno.
Bruno was an unlikely companion for Hunter and the two met at a creek nearby when they had stopped for a quick drink to beat the heat, both were wary of each other but the tension between the two eased up when Bruno began to clean up one of the wounds on Hunter's leg, creating an alliance between mustang and hound dog.
Bruno was born a stray, though it had been a long time since he had seen any of his family, he had wandered for miles and barely escaped predators as a pup, eventually reaching adulthood and learning that he too had to fight for everything he ever had.
Bruno and Hunter paired up and were inseperable, Bruno's mere presence frightened most predators and anything that came near him would have to get through Hunter first.
That's what made their separation so hard, when the humans came and caught Hunter and Bruno both and took them somewhere they couldn't see or smell each other.
Hunter was miserable without him, finding it hard to go about his new daily routine without the presence of the hound mix beside him, though that changed when he arrived at Polar North only to be reunited with his best friend for the first time, the handlers at the ranch having adopted them both.
Hunter was so joyful to see Bruno, and Bruno to see him, the pair frolicked and played for hours and eventually settled down to just enjoy each other's company for the first time in what felt like forever.
Hunter and Bruno now enjoy walks and rides together and have a loving, caring home that refuses to keep them apart for too long.
(Note: Hunter and Bruno were separated because Bruno had to go to the vet to get checked out and stayed there for a while to recuperate from being on his own for so long. They were eventually both ready for adoption and the staff told the handlers at PN that they were pretty bonded and should be adopted together.)
