name: Opal
short story: In a dense forest covered in a blanket of snow, there lived a mysterious fox. Her fur was as white as snow, and in her mouth, she carried a lantern. The fox lived alone, but she wasn’t lonely. The entire forest was her playground and she knew every inch of it.
That night though, a fierce snowstorm swept through the forest. She had never seen anything like it. The winds howled and the snow piled up in front of her. Not even her lantern could light the way.
Opal was at a loss, she had nowhere to go. Suddenly, she spotted a light. So much brighter than her lantern. She followed it, and soon found herself in a small cave. It was warm and cozy. As she settled in, she felt something climb onto her. It was a family of rabbits! They huddled against her for warmth. She closed her eyes and listened to the soft breathing of the rabbits sleeping in her thick fur.
The next morning, the snowstorm cleared, and they left the cave. Opal felt a bit sad. While she never felt lonely, it was nice having someone around her. She would always remember that night, the warmth, and companionship she had found in a snowstorm. And from that day, Opal never felt alone again. She knew she could always go back to that cave and find her new friends if needed.

rest in peace, special boy
there'll never be another one like you
and my heart will always be missing
your presence from now until always
"hey, i'm Ember's cat, Rosie.
if you're wondering, Ember's PM's are always
open if you have other questions or
just want to chat. she does not
take commissions anymore."

"hello I'm Koda, Ember's RL puppy dog. just so you know, she is always looking for missed monthlies on her wishlist."
I reached down and grabbed the extended hand, hauling my daughter onto her feet after she slipped on a patch of ice. The wind whipped and howled past us, but the snow in the air was only from what was already on the ground. The worst was yet to come.
“Are you okay?” I ask, furrowing my brow.
“I’m okay Dad, just a little sore but I’ll be fine,” she answers, wincing a bit as she put her full weight back on her feet.
“Good, we are close to the shelter…as long as we don’t lose our way.” I had turned away from Haven before saying the second half, so she didn’t pick up on the fear deep in my gut.
“Hey Dad? I think I see a light, it’s over there between those trees on the hill.”
I turned to look in the direction Haven was pointing and was hesitant to leave the path to investigate, but my decision was made for me as the light bounced effortlessly down the slope. I instinctively reached for my rifle and pushed Haven behind me. The swirling wind abated and revealed a fox as silvery blue as the snow holding a glowing lantern in its jaws. I tensed up while Haven audibly gasped. The fox only stared at us with its piercing gaze, shook off the snow, then bound back up the hill before looking back once more as if beckoning us to follow. Suddenly I recalled an old folk tale my mother would tell me about a forest spirit that would guide lost travelers.
“Come on Dad! I think it’s showing us the way!” Before I could react, Haven was already chasing after the strange fox.
I quickly followed, but I couldn’t remember if the spirit was friendly in the end…
