It is possible to fail this. (you will still get a reward)
All rewards are planned out beforehand, do not ask for a different one.
You may only participate if you passed the every week until the present one.
If you receive an item, it may be a little bit til you are able to use it since all that isn’t set up yet. Just be patient :)
