His glasses reminded me of an old-fashioned airplane pilot, and his show name is derived from lyrics to Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver. When I was growing up, my grandparents had a swing-set in the backyard with one swing shaped like an airplane, and my grandmother used to put me in there and sing that song to me, so it brings back plenty of happy memories. Also, John Denver was just an all-around good guy and his songs are not only wholesome, to me they are unforgettable classics.

Gender: Male
Prompt: When Pilot was younger, he was very social and gregarious, making friends with everyone that he met. He had an intense dislike of being alone and could always be found surrounded by family and friends. Eventually, he met the collie who won his heart, whom he imagined spending forever with. Unfortunately, his happiness was not to be - she developed SOA (Sudden Onset Aggression) and attacked him one night while he slept. He woke up in complete terror, seeing his beloved transformed into a vicious, snarling animal. Horrified, he turned and attempted to run, but they were shut in the same room together and as she snapped and bit his face, scarring him badly, he had no choice but to defend himself.
The humans approached, hearing the noise, and separated the dogs immediately. A trip to the vet and several days' observation led to the SOA diagnosis but unfortunately there was no treatment, and Pilot's dear girl was put to sleep. That event not only damaged his ability to trust others, it also affected his opinion of himself as he realized that - necessary though it was - he had fought back and injured her as well. He saw a side of himself that he didn't care for, and his confidence was affected. He no longer felt that he could trust himself, and wondered if he might do something worse when push came to shove, if his back were against the wall again.
From that time on Pilot has withdrawn into himself. He still enjoys the attention of the humans, who he views as some sort of empowered beings, above the plight of mere dogs like him (though that is far from the truth). Nowadays he lounges in their company for the most part unable or unwilling to socialize with other dogs. He tends to freeze up and become unresponsive when in canine company, one paw raised uncertainly, always waiting for the other shoe to fall. His people have noticed this and they attempt to draw him out of his shell, but so far their efforts have had little success.
