The little grey kitten was upset, running past the edge of the camp onto a side path in the snowy forest. He stuck out like a sore thumb as he fumbled along the path, not making much ground quickly due to his size. He tried to stifle upset noises as he walked, unsure of where he was going - he clearly wasn’t wanted here, if that tortie’s reaction was anything to go by,and nobody else in the clearing seemed to have even noticed he was there. He continued forward on shaky limbs as he found a cave, and he stepped inside of it. After a few paces he sat down, and he clearly began to cry - nobody else would bother him if he was in here, although he doubted anyone would even really care about him, anyways..
Or so he thought, anyways. He didn’t notice as a much, much bigger figure slunk from out of the shadows toward him, his eyes seeming to glow.
“Oh, you poor little thing.”
The echo of a voice down the secluded walls of the cave the dual-sided tabby made his home in, and the smaller figure sat in front of him, slouched. “It must be so unfortunate, watching that little lightning girl be blessed with attention and care from the rest of the group, but leaving you to the sidelines, hmm?”
The kitten nodded in front of him, and Hubris’ smile twisted upward a little more. “Well, don’t you worry. You’ve come to the right person, and I’ll be sure to make sure everyone pays attention to you.” He loomed over the kitten, and they seemed to shrink down a bit, which made Hubris purr a bit. “Of course, that’s not what’s happening right now, in this moment. Why don’t you tell me more about you and your problem?”
The small grey kitten shuffled his paws as he tried to think over what to tell the massive chimera tabby. “‘M Mimic.” He started, looking back up at Hubris to see if he could gauge a reaction. “I managed to find my way up here, but the big tortie lady got mad at me..”
“Mm, her. She must still be mad that she lost her place as leader.” Hubris commented, looking down to Mimic.
“She said that I was ‘Helios’ problem’ to deal with and she walked away.” Mimic sunk down a bit, clearly looking upset, and Hubris gave a ‘tsk’.
“I’ll certainly give Heli a good word for you.” Hubris replied, and the smaller kitten perked up.
“Y-You will?”
“But of course.” Hubris leaned down again, giving him a large smile. “But for now, who says you need to go back to that lot?”
“But where will I go?”
“I think you’ll be quite useful with me.” The chimera responded with a flick of his tail. “It gets quite lonely over here when Heli decides he doesn’t want to visit. It’d be nice to have the company.”
“R-Really? I can stay here?”
“Of course.” Hubris replied. “If they don’t want you there, then we can just do our own little thing! Pieces that don’t fit in the mold.”
This seemed to perk Mimic up, and he chirped. “Th-Thank you!”
Hubris smiled, seeming pleased when the kitten didn’t pick up on his deeper feelings. I’ll just have to make you more of a problem to them than they’d like.
