Prompt 2 :
Travelers are seldom seen in the same place twice, having the entire universe and then some to explore. Experts in time travel, as well as dimensional travel, they dedicate their lives to studying the various differences between worlds. The
Travelers Guild was established so long ago no one quite knows exactly how old it is, it's creation almost as unknown as that of the doorknobs. A guild house is located in most larger cities, though their whereabouts are only known to the travelers themselves and whatever government/patriarchy rules over said cities. These guild houses are used for corroborating information gathered by various travelers into a comprehensible
Dimensional Atlas, a very large and extremely long book used to sort out history and allow different dimensions a way to contact and request things from others. Ezylryn, though still relatively young, is a rather experienced traveler who focuses on information gathering. With a keen eye for the smallest of details, their information comes at a pretty penny. Very rarely do they take on shipment requests, sticking to free exploration and the occasional scientific gathering quest. Ezylryn doesn't want to involve themselves in inter dimensional politics, as things can get quite messy sometimes and they'd rather stay out of any unnecessary trouble. Along with their self, Ezylryn brings along a rather nicely crafted dagger and their trusted satchel, which they were given by their mentor upon graduating and becoming a real traveler.
Inside of their satchel, Ezylryn carries several tools for their travels.
When traveling through time and space, one's most valued tool would be the
Dimensional Doorknob. An ancient relic passed down by travelers from generation to generation, no one knows exactly what makes it work. There's also only about 1000 in existence, though most have been lost in time and about 100 were destroyed in attempts to study them to make more. Holding it up to any surface and reciting the proper incantation causes the knob to attach to said surface and a door to be carved out of it. A traveler may then open the door and step through to the other side, which will be wherever the entered destination, time, date, and dimension is.
Almost as valuable would be the
Spatial Sextant, a precision tool used to calculate the trajectory a traveler must take between two points in time and space. Without it, a traveler would open a door to who-knows-where. With the possibilities literally being endless, it can be quite dangerous taking a blind trip. Unlike the knob, the sextant was created by later travelers after much trial and error and expansive mathematical analysis. The output values are much like coordinates used on earth, just much longer considering all the variables going into it. Time, date, and dimension listed in that order, followed by planetary space, planet, land mass/body of water/air space, and the exact location. (T:T.D-M-Y.DI.PS.P.L/W/A.X-Y-Z) The output must be included in the incantation exactly as calculated.
If they're not on Ezylryn's head, their
Glancing Goggles can be found in their satchel as well. These lucrative goggles are almost as rare as the doorknobs. Used primarily by travelers, then the wealthy few, these goggles allow the wearer to see their own time space coordinates. This let's travelers easily make sure they ended up in the correct location. Another feature, only known to the traveler community, is that one can input local data for the location at hand, allowing the wearer to also see city/state/province/country names.
Most people would wonder where a traveler may reside, where they would call home, considering they're always on the move. A
Residential Reticule is a must have for travelers, originally made for merchants and wealthy nobles these pouches aren't what they seem. The magic used on them is powerful and complex, creating a small pocket dimension in which anything can be stored. That includes the traveler themselves. At first, the pouch will only have one space like a bare room to store things, but with money comes power and you can upgrade your pouch to the point of having an entire castle interior. Most larger towns have inns which accept reticule patronage, often times having a well secured room for people to store their pouches while sleeping in them. Ezylryn has kept their reticule at a cozy size, much like a cottage with a living room, a small kitchen, a bedroom, and an expanding treasure room. (If you know what this is originally from I love you)
A common problem travelers face is where to safely store their reticules when in the wild. Albeit impractical in larger cities, as anyone with enough magical knowledge can disarm them,
Sigil Stones are a perfect countermeasure against pouch theft and ambushes by wild animals. When placed in a circle and with the proper incantation used, these stones form a bubble-like forcefield around the designated area within. Other than air, nothing can pass through the barrier. While Ezylryn carries six to ten around at a time, the more stones you use the larger and/or stronger the forcefield becomes. Some trading companies use over a hundred to protect their caravans at night.
Ezylryn keeps track of all the places they've traveled within their
Travelers Tome. Past journals fill the bookshelves of their room. Records of every coordinate they've travelled to, filled with sketches of local flora and fauna, notes on the climate, geography, and any intelligent life. Some pages are filled with recounts of Ezylryn's various encounters and adventures. Exploring the locational or timely civilizations, cataloguing ruins and artifacts they've obtained, run-ins with local wildlife. Small notes fill any empty space that was left, quips about food they've tried or the weather at the time. Samples of flora are sandwiched between some pages, leaving dried leaves and flowers to be found by Ezylryn later.
Various
Inscription Instruments litter their satchel, when grabbing something odds are a pen or pencil is coming out with it. Ezylryn tries to procure a writing utensil from every civilization they visit, paint brushes, pens, pencils, chalk, paints, inks, and everything in between. Unfortunately they can't keep every one in their satchel, so they usually retire the associated tools when they finish exploring a place. Almost every note taken was done so with a unique instrument. Retired instruments are stored in small containers and jars, strewn about their reticule cottage. They do keep one infinipen on hand just in case their destination has no intelligent life. Only then are notes taken in a consistent manner.
This is literally amazing ( O w O)
