Hi everyone, happy last day of Hanukkah!

While Hanukkah has evolved into sort of a Christmas analog, it is actually traditionally a smaller and more introspective holiday in Judaism about a miracle, and finding light in dark times.

To acquire this Kel, write something that you think has brought this Keldine hope in a dark time. This is a creative writing prompt that will be judged on creativity and not writing ability. Prettying is allowed, but it will have less of an effect than the content of the writing itself. No extras beyond that please! Word limit is 300 words.

End date will be in 10 days at the end of the 16th of December at CS rollover!

the night is something that many would regard as fearful.

you cannot anticipate what happens in the dark, you can’t see
what’s lying ahead, only the moon and the stars lend slithers of
light to the earth, the sun is forgotten for the beauty of moonlight,.

for epiphany, the dark gives her hope, the night sky is like a blanket,
reassuring her, giving them a purpose that the sun couldn’t offer. the
dark was freedom, nobody could judge you in the dark, the sun gives
the opportunity for all to see.

there’s something beautiful about epiphany’s glow at night. a
warm light in the sea of invisibility, a ray of security when it is needed
the most. for young keldines in the dark, she can lead them to
where they need to be, no keldine would be scared in her company.
the gentle glow of her tail gives all who look upon it hope, an infection
of warmth and serenity in the most tense situations.

only she is capable of such ability.

the night gives her hope, for when there’s no sun, she can shine bright,
and her gift can be appreciated by all that come across her.

Noam’s Ravens

This year’s summer was arid and lifeless. Noam didn’t so much mind the rough dry season as he had great access to fresh water and produce on his farm.

On this farm he grew root vegetables, beans, wheat and corn, all planted in pretty rows. Noam was alone on his quiet little farm and he had liked it that way for quite some time but now he wasn’t so sure it was what he wanted.

Cleverly crafted hay dolls and scarecrows lived on every corner of this farm. Most found this quite frightening; the birds of course. This was an intentional action to protect his crops but Noam came to question that decision when he’d see thirsty ravens hopping around the border of his farm searching for any scrap of food or muddy puddle.

The introverted keldine quickly decided to gather up his scarecrows and stow them away in an unused shed. For a moment he was unsure of this decision; he’d have less crops and well, as odd as it seems, he’d grown quite attached to the lifeless bodies.

Within only a few minutes after hiding away the scarecrows, ravens began to gather in the trees around his farm calling out to him in their low, brooding tone. Noam chimed into their conversation with a long high whistle that rang in his ears.

One blackbird repeated his song and flew down to a garden bed to investigate. Noam, overjoyed by his new feathered friend offered him an ear of corn. A few more birds flew down and joined the dinner party. Noam crept in closer to the birds who flinched away at first and whistled something new, a series of tones this time. Two or three birds sung back, not entirely in key but well enough to make Noam chuckle happily.

The ravens became permanent residents of Noam’s farm. They offered him company, song, even brought him seeds to sow on occasion. Noam’s harvest was less plentiful then it had been the years before but he was a lot happier for it; and so were the ravens.
