catalina wrote:It was a whirlwind romance, really. I met him near the southwest sea, when I was a bright, naive siren who had just gotten a taste for land. Maybe 57, or so, it's been so long now..
He was charming, and had this way about him that just felt strong and protective. It was the edge of the Werwild where we met, sparse trees littering the dirt beach. I don't think he had yet fallen quite so deeply with his ideations of the Void, but he still babbled about it excitedly. I didn't know what "it" was, but I have to admit his excitement lured me into it, what the deep ones are.. or were. Now? I'd tread on their graves in disgrace for what they've taken from me. What they.. took from him.. He took me into this beautiful grotto, where a lightless pool lay. I wasn't scared of it, I was just curious, but Acantha forbid me from approaching it further than ten feet. We spent two decades in that forest, traveling to every corner in search of those unknown secrets. And I loved it, I followed him like a dog. Pathetic, now, how lovelost i was with him. So totally enraptured, that I couldn't see that behind those two crystalline eyes was a darkness impenetrable to my love.
I was reaching, what, young? middle-age? For a normal mare, that is, when I gave birth to our son. A year or two after that time I grew rather ill, and because he still needed to be in my care, I took him to my family--who hadn't seen me in nearly three decades at that point--where I recovered and planned my trip back. It was stormy, that night. My son was six years old, those bright golden eyes staring at me in fear of the thunder. Tears sparkling his cheeks when the door burst forth, and Grimdawn tramped forwards. I thought he had come for me, but instead he took my son.

catalina wrote:What few recognize, because
so few do participate in these
Necromantic rituals, is that time
morphs differently when you are
among the dead. What felt like a
few days? Was seventy years. I was
over 180 by the time I set sail back
to my homeland. But by then, the
world had changed quite a lot. My
family was gone, their name seemingly
erased by time. Merponies were fewer
and further between than they had ever
been, and my old docks in the South-
west sea were gone, destroyed, or
eroded with time. In anger I may have,
or may not have, pillaged several houses
and small groupings of cities along the
coastline, gathering a collection of wine
casks, jewelry, coins, and gems for my
crew to enjoy. Around this time I heard
about the new rulers of Paledon, and
that the once whole kingdom
was divided into two ▬▬♦♦♦▬▬▬▬▬▬

catalina wrote:A little information on undead
minions. They love shiny
things, and while they do
retain some of their humanity?
They are very thirsty for
blood. If you present them with
the opportunity to attack, make
feast on the living, they'll take
the opportunity without question.
Kind of like dogs, how loyal they
are... My own creation too! Well,
maybe the only downside is the
smell. Ghosts just smell like ..
sulphur, and musk. Rotting wood
and damp leaves. Old, nasty,
kind of like Grimdawn. With him
in mind, I'd wonder what he'd
think of me now... If he still has
a brain, with that void muddling
his senses and reasons. Pathetic
worm. It doesn't matter what he
would think. I am a Queen among
the Dead, I am living higher than
his highest dreams could reach.
And I want to rub his nose in it
until his skin is worn down to
bone and I see the fear
flare in his eyes before I snuff
the joy out of him ▬♦♦♦▬▬

Sacred Sin wrote:This design is so freaking gorgeous! I’m in awe of your master character creation skills, and I’m always so excited to see new pieces of your work, especially in the Paledon universe. I hope we get to learn more about Catalina and how she met Oathbreaker because I am living for the lore of this world and its occupants. Wonderful job, Ash! I’m usually just a lurker that rarely posts on the forums nowadays, but I had to come out of hiding to compliment your beautiful work. :’)
