Workers and volunteers have said that he seems to find comfort in something familiar, hence the reason for his surprising take to random baskets. The rescue has now begun to raise money for a 'basket hounds' campaign for other dogs who need something to seek comfort in. There is a basket, in particular, that he couldn't go a day without. His basket for sleeping! It has a soft, welcoming green blanky inside and it's just big enough for big Deino, forming protective willow-wood walls left, right, and behind him, helping him find comfort in the darkest or loneliest of times.

this pit bull came to the shelter a broken dog. he never held his head high and always stayed low to the ground. he wouldn’t bark, bite, or growl, even when scared. his eyes held no light, no hope, and they had never seen his tail wag. but one day he found a short and wide stick in the yard. he carried it into his kennel for the night and when the keepers found it the next day, he wouldn’t let them take it. this chunky stick made a quiet and broken dog spring up with life. every time he had to get a check up or his kennel needed cleaning, he would bring the stick. and if he was forced to leave it, then once he got it back he would prance his feet, something the keepers called “toe tapping” or “happy prancing”. at night, he would curl up around the stick. the keepers let him keep it, as he had never shown any aggression when other dogs try to take the stick and he has not tried to eat it. and besides, if a stick makes him happy, then why take it away?
