The warm greeting caressed my ears gently, as a reassurance. My missing eye was turned to the door but I could easily recognize the warm voice from anywhere, Lavenia. She had learned to navigate just as I, except she was more skilled in finding me in my kennel than I searching for my food bowl. My tail banged against the smooth marble flooring, excitement radiating off the both of us. You see, Lavenia had begun visiting me from outside my kennel, whispering stories or small lyrics to our favorite song. I was skeptical, at first, because the first human, before I had lost my eye and 'use', had pointed at another, scary-looking dog and spoke a word I will never forget or mention again.

Our journey started when they walked me into my kennel after my surgery, I heard a girl sobbing although it was muffled. The veterinarian comforted her but her glassy eyes shown nothing but tears and sadness. I knew what had happened. She must've lost a good friend, a fellow dog. I made my way past the person walking me to my kennel and tugged in her direction until they understood, dropping my leash gently and letting me slowly make my way to her. I laid my head on her lap and let her make the first move, whether or not she needed me was up to her.

I stared deeper into her eyes and noticed something sad but more than that. She was like me, blind. Her blue-ish blind eyes shone and although I was exhausted from the pain medication, this human desperately needed me. So, that's what I was to do from then on. I became her dog and she became my human, she taught me things and I taught her things. After that day, they began training me... training me to be a service dog, so I could always be with my human until the end of time, no matter what hardships either of us endured.
