What Are Felikerai
Felikerai (fee lih kee rye) are a recently discovered species of panthers. Unlike their other relatives, these big cats harbor many magical abilities that previously were thought to only be possible in fiction. Standing at about 4 feet tall from their shoulders, you may be intimidated upon meeting one for the first time. However, once you get to know them, you'll find that they are generally kind and gentle. They are incredibly intelligent, perhaps even more than humans, with a capacity for strong emotional bonds.
How They Came To Be
The rainforests of the Amazon have always been inhabited by felines. From large panthers to miniature ocelots, they range in all shapes and sizes. Their peaceful existence was disturbed when a meteor crashed in the middle of the rainforest, strange magic seeping out through the cracks and into the environment. It attached to the panthers and began to awaken new abilities in them. Some of the magic was absorbed into their pelts, creating new patterns and colors. It also sparked change in their brains, and many realized they had newfound intelligence. They gathered together and dubbed themselves Felikerai, believing that a new name was the beginning of a path forward. The other jungle cats were afraid of these “new and improved” beings, and went out of their way to avoid them. However, the Felikerai paid no heed.
How They Were Discovered
No one was the wiser about the Felikerai’s existence for several months. However, many locals suddenly noticed several thefts of shiny, valuable objects, and all around the same time. A few intrepid explorers eventually heard of the villagers' perils and ventured into the rainforest. Whereupon locating a stash of stolen goods, they’d find a Felikerai guarding it. This encounter led to humans studying the cats where we learned of their magical nature. After many efforts from activists, Felikerai became a guarded species where they gained several rights that would protect them from nonconsensual testing, hunting, and more preservation efforts for their native forest.
Why You Should Befriend One
Felikerai that find human companions become friendly and helpful, while the rest remain somewhat feral. Felikerai are great companions that assist with many aspects of daily life. Many have the ability to levitate, and as such can reach high places. Their keen sense of smell allows them to be excellent with search and rescue, and they can even ease human illnesses with their magic. At the end of the day, they’re also quite snuggly! Felikerai aren’t able to speak the human tongue, but they have the ability to understand any language. If someone takes the time to learn their body language, they’ll see that Felikerai actually have several signals they use to communicate. With training, Felikerai are also able to use telepathy to communicate.
