Lion name: Berette
Lion gender: Female
Pride:Mystic IslesPride status: Silk Show, flute player
Break-up:It had been forbidden romance at its finest. Sneaking around, wondering when they would next, and hoping each other's prides wouldn't find out. They wouldn't be killed if they were found, but the repercussions would not be good.
But it was worth it.
Berette was the confidence, the energy and the excitement.
Bern Bern was her balance, he was relaxed, yet sure, he made her think about who she was inside, and how she truly felt. He got under her cheerful and sassy exterior to find who she was inside.
It felt like it would last forever.
But now Berette knew it was time they part ways.
She wasnt sure when she first noticed, or if it had always been that way. But it had gotten worse. Berette could no longer ignore it. Bern was in love with another lioness.
One of the most tragic parts was that he didnt even seem to realise. But the way he talked about her, almost constantly. The way he was slowly became distant, before dragging himself back with compliments and confessions of love, as if realising he was falling from Berette's grasp yet trying to bring himself back.
It tore up her heart. How was she supposed to deal with this? She couldn't compete against Her, She was in Bern's pride, she got more time with him, their love wasn't forbidden, it was an easier love.
And she was happy for them! Well... Maybe she didnt feel so happy now, but she knew she would in time. They fit one another, and it would be easier, no more midnight trips and hiding from others. Simple love. And by freeing him, she would free herself too.
She just had to break up with him.
But everytime she looked into his beautiful amber eyes she hesitated. How could she say the things on her mind? How could she break his heart when he whispered sweet words in her ear. It felt cruel, but it would be far more cruel to keep him in the dark.
She started writing out what she would say, how to say it. But nothing sounded right. She wanted everything to be perfect, a clean cut, one that laid everything out, but didnt blame anyone. Eventually she became so frustrated at the constant revisions that she took it to her best friends, Iah and Tanisha. She needed another opinion.
She just hoped they wouldn't hate her too much for keeping her secret love for them.
She needn't have worried.
Iah looked at her notes, crumbled and tear-stained as they were and he mistook them for song lyrics. It was to be expected, he was a singer after all. But in that moment, as Tanisha and Iah poured over Berette's break up notes and helped correct them, making them more melodic Berette didn't correct their assumption.
Instead, she embraced the idea of breaking up with Bern via song.
It was the perfect cover to her friends, and yet she got their help in the best of ways, ironing out everything she wanted to say in a way that made sense.
And there was something cathartic about belting out the lyrics, especially the middle of the chorus. Shouting out into the woods, her friends grinning maniacally at her energy.
“ I know you love me! I know you do! But I see her shadow in your heart and I'm afraid our love is burning out.”
Tanisha skips a beat on the drum, but Iah’s violin covers the sound.
“ You made me who I am, and I to you, but its time we strode alone.”
Now Iah hesitated, the violin screeching as he froze, staring into the woods.
“Who’s there?” He yelled, but to Berette it almost sounded like she was underwater. No way could she be so unlucky. But she knew what she had seen. Bern, his mouth filled with flowers, flowers for her.
And he had seen her singing of their breakup.
The breakup she had not yet told him about.
She didn't wait another moment. She quickly tried to reassure Iah and Tanisha and then she ran. Chasing Bern through the forest, crashing through like their relationship was crashing to pieces.
Finally she caught up, her heart in her mouth at the tears on his face. This wasnt how the breakup was supposed to go.
“Im-”
“ You-”
The two stared at each other, broken hearts alike. Bern spoke first.
“ Why didnt you just tell me? “
“ I didn't even know where to start, I'm so sorry.” Beretta frantically apologised, Bern just turned, his face downwards.
“ You- Maybe time apart would be good.” He muttered quietly.
“ I never meant you to find out this way.”
“ Goodbye Berette.” Bern said dejectedly. “ I wish it had gone differently too.” (792/800)
