Name: Lana (LAH-nuh)
Gender: Female
Prompt:

Lana was always a daddy’s girl. From the day she sprung from her horizon gem, she’d clung to her dad with everything she had. He spoilt her every chance he got and spent much of his days with her. She never met her mother as a tragedy had taken her from them days before her birth. But her father remembered. Every night when she was little, her father would sing her mother’s favorite song to her before bed.

“Lullabies and candies are too sweet for me;
But darling you are just my cup of tea.

Raindrops and blizzards are much too cold;
But darling your showers will never grow old.

Every day passes far too fast;
But memories of you, forever will last.

Don’t ever forget me, my darling dove;
Forever you will have my undying love.”

As she grew older, she began to sing the words along with her father and they became a sensational duet throughout Lambitown. Their father-daughter bond was unbreakable. Until disaster struck. When her dad passed away of a strange, incurable disease, Lana withdrew into herself and stopped singing altogether. She lived this way for months, shut in her house with only her memories for company.

And then Wintertide came. Suddenly the streets were filled with music, lights, and laughter. And despite her hardship, she found herself smiling. The joy was contagious, no matter how she tried to fight it and she found herself humming along to a Wintertide tune. She found her healing in the winter music and grew into a loving, healing Lambicorn. She now uses her voice for others, no matter the season. Wintertide carols are her favorite but she also sings to elderly and injured in hospitals and children at Leana’s Daycare.

Lana still thinks about them. Her parents. Her father. She likes to think that they are watching her, smiling down in joy at what she’s doing. It keeps her going. There are still nights that she cries and hums her mother’s lullaby. But she pushes through, knowing that every smile she put on someone else’s face was a healing hand on her own heart.

Name: Cherub
Gender: Genderfluid (afab)
Prompt: (432 words) Sorry about the poor formatting
Cherub was poor. Always scrounging for food and picking grimy coins off the ground wherever they may be. It was the chilliest season of them all when she came across these carolers. They were smiling and harmonizing to the jolliest tune she'd ever had the pleasure of hearing. Sitting off to the side, so as to not disturb the wealthier folk, Cherub bounced her paw to the rhythm, feeling every note with her heart and her ears. Many songs later the carolers took a break. Cherub cautiously came over to them, making sure to keep a little distance between them so they didn't have to smell her. One of them looked up, their ears adorned with golden rings and eyelids tinged in black.
"Yes, dear?" They inquired. Cherub shuffled her paws, then asked them what that first jolly tune was called. "Oh, that was Jingle Bells! My personal favorite. Do you want the sheet music?" The caroler extended their paw with a piece of crisp white paper. It had black swirls and dots and letters on it. Cherub smiled, warmth forming in her chest despite the cold. She took the piece of paper, thanked all the carolers, then ran back to her hill. She had a scruffy little sibling awaiting her arrival. Val, as Cherub often called her, was eager to examine the paper. Unlike her older sister, Val had some time in school before she broke off from their parents. After a few days of teaching and reciting, Cherub had memorized the magical tune. They had made a plan to go along with it, as well. Cherub went to the subway station, an old plastic water bottle filled with icy liquid in her paw. Taking a much-needed sip, she stood by a pillar and began the first notes. At first, it was quiet, then it got louder and louder as her confidence grew. More and more passersby looked to Cherub. It wasn't often they had quality entertainment before their commute to work. She sang and she sang, taking breaks in between to count the cash her audience dropped at her feet. The money was piling up, and so was her joy. It was late afternoon, and the commuters had gone, but there were still some travelers to entertain. Val had shown up to bring Cherub her meager lunch of a chunk of moldy bagel. The smaller lambie's eyes had grown to double their size when they saw the growing pile of cash Cherub had collected. This was it. They were saved. Saved by a Christmas Miracle, I guess you could say.

Name: Aurora
Gender: female
Prompt:
Aurora use to leave with her grandmother. Every year at Christmas, they would go caroling with a few others from the town. Aurora always loved to hear her grandmother sing, and her grandmother loved to sing. Aurora's grandmother loved making people happy even more than singing, which was why she started the caroling group in the first place, to bring happiness every year on Christmas. Aurora loved to help her grandmother, and she loved to see the happy faces whenever they caroled. But that was a long time ago.

Aurora hasn't song since her grandmother passed. It brings her to much sadness. When her grandmother passed, she was sent to live with her great uncle. He was her grandmother's brother. He is a bitter old man, and always quit grumpy. But he is the last family of Aura.

One day Aurora decided to ask her great uncle about her grandmother as a child.

The old Lambicorn looked at her, pain in his eyes, and sighed.

"She was a lot like you, kind, gentle, and a little headstrong"

"Realy?" Aurora asked.

"yes really" he snapped. Them he took a deep breath and sighed.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I have just been so lost without her. She was my best friend you see. We use to do everything together" He looked down rather sadly then continued. "We use to go on adventures together. Rather it be playing in the river, which at that time was a small creek, or traveling the forest, we had such fun."

Looked at Aurora. " I remember that sometimes your grandmother would wander off by herself. One time I followed her. And she went to a big cave, and began to sing." He stopped and smiled as if he was right there again. "She had the voice of an angel your grandmother." He paused then chuckled. "When she found out i had been spying, she got so flustered and angry. She refused to talked to me for an entire week." "Finally my parents got involved and asked what happened, so I told them." He smiled some more, and Aurora sure she could see the colors return to his face. "When I told my parents about her singing, they got so excited. They immediately signed her up to a singing competition."

"Grandmother was in singing competitions?" Aurora asked, baffled.

"Yes many, and she won most of them" He smiled.

"Wow, did grandmother ever stop singing" Aurora asked.

"Iy, she did" he frowned. "She got into an accident, she was injured and lost her voice, but she also lost something else, something even more precise, her first child, who would of been your aunt." He looked so grim. "She was so devastated, that when her voice returned, she refused to sing ever again."

"But she did sing again, what made her change her mind" Aurora asked.

He looked at her for a very long time, then smiled. "It was you little one. When you were given to her, she was sad, but your cute little face cheered her up. She began singing lullabies to you, and other song, and eventually realised, that she missed singing. I believe she started her caroling group when you were two. " He smiled.Then he looked sad again. "Oh I miss her so much." He began to sob, then full brown cry.

Aurora didn't know what to do, she had so rarely seen an adult cry. Then she thought of what her grandmother would do when she was upset, and she began to sing.

When she was don singing, she hugged her great uncle, with all her might, and he hugged back. He wiped his tears and then said "Thank you."

After that, Aurora would sing once more, and every Christmas, she and her great uncle would go out caroling with the local carolers. They would always think of the grandmother, and try to bring happiness like the grandmother did.

      Name: carole
      Gender: female
      Prompt: For her entire life, Carole has been pestered because of her name-- "you should be a singer!" they'd joke, but the truth was, that's all Carole ever wanted to be. Her favorite thing to do since she could remember was sing songs, and having everyone around her make light of her ambition made her feel bad about having it and made her wonder if she really could be a great singer if she tried her best. Carole practiced singing in secret for the longest time, not telling anyone for fear that they'd make more jokes and laugh at her and her oddly coincidental name. That was, until Christmas rolled around. It was this Christmas in particular she was someone out caroling all alone-- a solitary, adult lambicorn much like herself. Curious, she went out to meet them. She was only used to seeing lambabies and their parents out caroling, but this lamb was not in the company of any others.

      "Who are you?" Carole asked, "And what brings you out here all alone?" She'd always had the idea in her head that caroling was for lambabies, that singing wasn't something grown lambicorns could do anymore, so it struck her as odd to see. She looked at this stranger with eyes wide, full of wonder and admiration. After all, they were doing what they wanted to do regardless of what people thought of it.

      "I am a caroler," the lambicorn replied with a small smile. They had a knowing glint in their eyes, and a strange aspect about them that made them seem more like a ghost than a lamb at all. But their presence was warm, and their voice was soft and musical like singing wind chimes. "Would you care to join me? I'm simply out caroling, since it is the season! I have an extra song book, if you're interested."

      Carole looked down at the song book for a long moment. The beaming lambicorn on the cover and the caroler before her made her feel like maybe she'd been wrong-- maybe she could do what she wanted, too, like this lambicorn did! Whether people thought it was silly or not, it was what Carole wanted. She took the book in her paws and smiled up at the stranger. "Of course! Where shall we go first?"

      And that was how Carole's tradition of caroling every year started. She hadn't done it since she was a young lambaby, and found that doing so in her adult years filled her with joy. She loved to sing, and seeing everyone's faces light up when she sang her carols to them made her very, very happy. It was like a dream come true. She never did figure out who that mysterious lambicorn was-- or what, for that matter-- but she's extremely glad to have met them. Every year she visits the place they met and leaves a little offering of holiday treats, and sings a song for them out of gratitude to the singing spirit who taught Carole not to be afraid of what others thought and to embrace her passions.
