Prompt:" Brackenflower?"
The long haired tabby froze. Refusing to look behind her, just in case the owner of the voice were to see the state she was in. However, no matter how much she tried, she couldn't stop the small sniffle from escaping her nose.
Without so much as a warning, a sudden pale blur appeared out of the corner of her eye. Prompting her to look up in time to meet the concerned gaze of none other than her best friend, Thornflake. Startled, Brackenflower tried to blink back her tears in an attempt to hide them. Only to realise that it was no use since the tortie point had already seen them.
" Is it because of what Frostsight said?", Thornflake asked. She didn't need to ask if her friend had been crying, the evidence was right there in front of her. However, it did little to soothe her rising anger when Brackenflower averted her gaze. Narrowing her pupils, the former kittypet glared back in the direction of their clan's camp." Why that good for nothing little-", she began. Already rising to her paws to go teach the younger tom a lesson in respect. Only to have her path blocked by none other than Brackenflower.
" No! Thornflake, it's alright! He was just stressed he didn't actually mean any of that!"
" It still doesn't give him the right to talk to you like that, stressed or not!", Thornflake snapped. Only to immediately regret it afterwards when the tabby shrunk back a little. Sensing that she was only making things worse, the tortie scanned their surroundings for something that might take her friend's mind off of the earlier incident." Wait right here", she added. Having spotted something that just might cheer Brackenflower up.
Before the tabby could even ask where the former kittypet was going, Thornflake was already on her way back with something delicate and yellow hanging from her jaws. A daffodil.
" Here, something to brighten up your day", Thornflake said. Carefully tucking it behind her friend's left ear, before taking a step back to view her handiwork. Amusement shone within her gaze at the slightly confused look the tabby was giving her." A flower for a flower", she added. Watching as Brackenflower looked into a small pond to view her reflection. A small smile soon appearing on the tabby's face.
The tortie point then moved to sit down next to her, before gently bumping her shoulder into Brackenflower's.
" Now you listen to me, don't you dare let anyone ever tell you that you're not wanted, because you and I both know that isn't true, you have cats here who love you for who you are and will defend you to the bitter end, including me, do you understand?", Thornflake asked. Watching as her companion gave one final sniff before nodding. Her gaze no longer filled with sadness." Good", she said softly.
What the tortie point heard next only made the warmth within her heart grow.
" Thank you Thornflake"
"Anytime"
