Lost SoulsPrompt || "What are you
doing?" Athene's brash meow startled Atratus from what they were doing. Looking sheepishly over their shoulder, they shrugged before turning back to their work. Athene accidentally stepped on one of the pieces of what Atratus was working on, and the mute cat hissed in displeasure until the brute stepped back, tail waving to appease them. "Woah, sorry pal. What in the Stars' names is
this?"
Scattered across the ground was an assortment of items, ranging from scraps of rags to skulls, to rocks and small twigs, tiny bits of greenery and even piles of fur and feathers in spots. It was arranged in some sort of pattern, the picture unable to be fully seen from their spots on the sand. Understanding this, and understanding that Athene wouldn't leave them alone until he got an answer, they tapped him on the shoulder with a paw.
Successfully garnering his attention, they beckoned to a large rock overlooking the whole project a dozen tail lengths away, and led him towards it. Bounding up the sloped edge, Atratus gazes down on the items, tilting their head this way and that until they were pleased, and then stepped back to let their group mate take their place. He does so, and squints down as well, confusion written all over his face as he tries to work out what he's looking at.
Atratus sighed and stepped up beside him, bumping his head with their own to tilt it the right way until the picture came together. They knew the moment he saw it by the way he stilled with a gasp. "Holy--" Athene cursed, ducking to avoid a displeased swipe at his ears, before his awestruck gaze settled on Atratus, setting their fur ablaze in embarrassment. "
You did this?" Atratus nodded hesitantly, before they're shoved back in an embrace. "Oh my Stars, it's amazing. It's Hecate, right? They're gonna love it. Why didn't you tell us you were so talented? Well, aside from, well, uh, not speaking and all? You could'a showed us!"
What they didn't—or, well,
couldn't—say was they they were afraid Xan or Hecate would get on their case about using up all their resources, even though they made sure it was all scrap and extra stuff that the group would be selling anyway. Plus, they'd clean it all up before the winds changed and buried everything, so it's not like they'd lose anything, but they weren't sure Hecate would see it the same way.
Realizing this, they dashed forward to stop Athene in his tracks, wildly shaking their head. "What?" he barked when he nearly stepped on Atratus' tail. They gestured to the sculpture and shook their head again, this time stomping a paw to accentuate their thought. "You... don't want me to tell Hecate?" The nodded in agreement, and confusion clouded his face. "Why?"
Struggling to put their thoughts into something that the other cat would understand, they pressed a paw to their mouth, miming 'secret'.
"Oooooh. Right, right. Our little secret, right. It's not finished, is it? You wanna finish it first, yeah? Makes sense. My teeth are clenched, won't breath a word."
