"It seemed as though all of the Skepluvias had been evacuated from the barn, nothing but empty cages remaining, broken doors hanging open and squeaking slightly in the gentle breeze. There was a feeling of calm, finally, the heavy weight of fear lifted as the last of the trucks drove away. Only a few volunteers remained, making sure to check the darkest of corners so that no animal be left behind. It was in these final moments that a ladder was found leading up to a decrepit hay loft. The floor bounced with every step, threatening to send the rescuers straight through to the ground below, but thankfully, in moments like this fear vacated their minds. It was a good thing too, as there was but a single cage residing in the loft, presumably forgotten about since the flooring was so dangerously rotten. In the cage was two young Skepluvias, curled around each other tightly and chittering softly to one another in reassurance. The poor things had been rejects from the pet trade,quite obviously, with their docked tails and declawed paws. They were safe from that fate now though, as the rescuers carefully helped the two out to the last remaining trailer outside."
