Yiang's name: Peros
Story prompt: It was a beautiful place, wild and free, rugged yet bountiful. You could tell too, the fauna was plentiful, including the number of crowned Yiangs. Maybe that's why it wasn't so surprising when Reece turned around to a cracking sound he saw a sleek, dark crowned Yiang staring down at the obnoxiously loud stick. He would've laughed but didn't want to scare off the precious creature. Not that that seemed to be something to worry abut as the creature seemed entranced with something in his grasp.
Reece looked down, wondering what could have the wild Yiang so enamored that he came so close to an unknown person. It was his radio, partially broken, and crackling from the static of his adventuring friends - though they probably would've just said teammates, or maybe even just associates.
He looked back up at the Yiang, to see it had surprisingly come even closer, its head tilted in curiosity as it let out a trill that sounded strangely like it was trying to imitate the static. Was this complete lack of fear what settlers has experienced as they walked straight up birds in the Galapagos or New Zealand?
Without warning his walkie-talkie exploded into a siren wail. Reece covered his ears from the shrill sound while the Yiang whipped back, head raising before diving it back back down suddenly, neck extending quickly. Goodbye hand, Reece thought as he closed his eyes. When he didn't feel the needle sharp teeth in his hand he dared to open his eyes, blinking quickly.
The Yiang had grabbed just the walkie-talkie and was now using it as a toothpick, the aerial a perfect size to fit between a gap inbetween two of its sharp fangs. Reece couldnt help but sit down in relief, sure, he was cut off from the others now but at least
he was intact.
After a while the Yiang pushed its head towards Reece and he scooted back. The animal paused, before doing it again, dropping something besides him. His mangled walkie-talkie. Great. Note the sarcasm.
Though... Reece looked at the Yiang who looked back curiously, posture submissive yet somehow lively. It was a pretty nice gesture, even if the tech was complexly useless now.
It was even nicer when the Yiang followed him back to camp. His head resting under Reeces hand, only trying to taste him a couple of times. At least now Reece had something to show for his day now.
