nixx's mother looked at him, her eyes sad and weary. "i don't know, nixx. your father will come back when the war is over."
nixx was still quite worried, but smiled as his mother patted his head with one long, lanky, bony arm. his father would come back, right?
there had been a war between two mothling countries for years over...well, who knows? it had been so long that everyone had forgotten. nixx's father decided to serve in the war, and every single one of his friends and family were worried about him...except nixx. he was going to be okay, right?
well...not everything turns out the way you expect it to turn out.
nixx was nothing but a young child when it happened. it was a beautiful morning, the sun was rising, and the air was cool and warm. however, instead of waking up to the scent of blueberry pancakes, nixx woke up to his mother crying.
nixx levitated to his mother, who was crying in the living room, covering her eyes with her tarsuses. nixx sat down next to her on the couch. "what's wrong, mama?"
it took nixx's mother a few seconds to get it out through her tears. "nixx, y-your father won't be coming back."
"oh no, is he sick or hurt?" nixx replied. "or both?"
"nixx, your father, h-he's gone."
nixx's heart sunk. he couldn't believe it! his father was gone?
and so tears streamed down the mothling's face, and he didn't stop crying for weeks. eventually, the war got so bad that nixx's mother was forced to send him off to a humble adoption center called the lighthouse. nixx was still very sad there, but beacon and the other mothlings made him feel better. nixx felt good at the adoption center, but not whole.
his father's death had left an unfillable hole in nixx's heart.
