A Halloween event, how exciting! The promise of stickers and goodies has led you here: a haunted forest. You thought the signs claiming it was haunted were just for theatrics, but as you get closer to the forest, the air seems to get colder and... heavier. It raises goosebumps on your skin. Strange considering an orange flit with flames dancing across his back is waiting for you at the mouth of the forest. You would think the fire would feel hot.
"Ah, you're here! I need your help," the orange flit rasped. "There are things in this forest that are required for my... work. And I don't really want to go in there myself, so that's where you come in."
You wonder what work he's talking about but before you can ask, he picks up a stick from the forest floor and the end of it bursts into flames almost immediately.
"Take this," he says through clenched teeth, and forces you it into your grip. You notice that when the blue flames get closer to you, it actually makes you feel colder, and a shiver runs down your spine. "This should protect you from whatever's inside the forest, just, whatever you do, don't let it go out..." he stares you down for a moment to see if you understand. "Good, you got it, so just pick up whatever you can find in there and bring it back and I'll give you a little something for your troubles." And with that the flaming flit starts pushing you into the forest. You only have a moment to read the 'keep out' sign before you are thrust past it into the darkness. You gulp down your fear as you glance around, then take a step forward.
