______________________A Continuation of Akiko and Gi's Story from
Here______________________
It did not take long for Apep to arrive; he stayed true to his promise made many years ago. However, even as the winged-guardian descended from above, prepared to help him and repair the wounds ripped into his flesh by the witch, Gi could find no peace.
Apep landed, then crouched quickly and opened his mouth to question him, but Gi's paws latched onto him, digging and pulling him closer as he spoke, trembling, to the guardian. "Akiko- she! You need to get her! Bring her back- Please!"
Apep's brows furrowed in confusion as he gently grabbed Gi's arms, studying the panic which seethed from his face. Slowly, his expression softened as his eyes drifted upward. Gi snapped his gaze towards the sky, trying to find what had the guardian's attention, and felt his heart scream as dark fangs drove into it. The storm had increased greatly and lightning rained from above. It was impossible for Apep to fly in this weather, impossible for either of them to catch up to her.
As the thoughts settled in his mind, sinking down slowly and landing with the weight of a thousand stars, what little was left of his composure shattered. Gi, who was always the jokester - the one to see the brighter side of things and the one which bore a shimmering heart of gold cheerfully and innocently on his shoulder, curled up into a ball, shivering from cold and pain and soaking the earth with his tears.
Apep carefully maneuvered him and lifted his upper half, helping Gi to get his legs beneath him, though it did not last long. Weak-hearted, Gi collapsed quickly and Apep lurched forward, hoisting him up and partially over a shoulder to support him before hiking up the mountain. The whole way, not a word was spoken - for what is there to say?
In time, they reached the small, cozy den Akiko and Gi had called their home - a small structure with a smaller egg stored within, now drizzled with cold water from a hole in the roof. Upon sighting of the egg, Gi no longer needed Apep's strength. He hobbled forward and collapsed near it, curling tightly around the small shell cradling a tiny life-form within. Years ago, Gi had found their son lifeless on the ground - human weapons driven into his chest. He buried and mourned alone, knowing that Akiko's memories would be erased of the boy to protect the world - a job Akuro did silently, but begrudgingly. Shortly after, when a powerful guardian was seen - taking the exact resemblance of their son, but with more tails, Gi and Akuro took the heavy responsibility of keeping the two separate at all cost. When Akiko had told him of the egg, of this new child, his heart was illuminated with hope at the idea of raising and watching over a child with her beside him - a child that she could know of and love whole-heartedly without consequence.
Apep lingered, bandaging Gi's more severe wounds before walking to the entrance of the den and looking back, debating over words to say. Slowly, he turned away and made his way down the mountain to the refuge - knowing he would be needed there by the wounded and healthy alike.
Gi's tears steadied, sliding from his cheeks in a steady pattern as he laid - curled around the egg, eyes locked on the storm which grew ever distant. In time, the wrath of the storm swelled with a roar of thunder, then - in the speed of a hummingbirds wing - it was snuffed out, leaving the sky a vacant color of dull blue. The scream which escaped him was natural, yet unnatural - the pure, unfiltered voice of misery and heartbreak. His chest burned in agony as his heart was ripped out - shattering bone and puncturing lung. Breaths came short as his lungs filled up with heavy fluid and his muscles grew taught, pulling him closer and tighter to the small egg he encircled as it slowly, quietly cracked.
