Deerssert are a mystical, mythological species that appear in history every so often. Sightings grew sparser and sparser through the years, but now they've started to appear more and more. Here at the HQ, a centre dedicated to keeping these creatures from being hunted, we cannot foster them all-- and that's where you come in!
The simplest way to explain them? Deersserts are deer with a twist! While the specifics vary from deer to deer, they all have a few things in common. Deersserts have muscle, skin, fur and bone, but they are described as tasting like sweets. Their scent lingers so much that hides carry a fragrant scent even after death. Instead of fluffy tails, they have a pouf of whipped cream or ice cream [depending on the deer!] with some manner of fruit on top.
they started out with the theme ocean storm but I think I prefer this :>>
To adopt this Deerssert:This deer has a story to tell! What is it? Have they found themselves or something
else on a journey, or perhaps been involved in something
important? It's up to you!
For this prompt, give me a short story they would tell someone else. The only requirement
is that the deer themself must be involved in it somehow. There is a 600 word limit for
writing. Alternatively, you may make a comic with up to 4 panels instead.
Prettying up is okay as long as all elements of this form are included:
- Code: Select all
Username:
Deer Name:
Their Story: (either up to 600 words OR an up to 4 panel comic)
Ends October 20th at 12pm PST

|Deer Name: Storm
|Their Story:Well ahoy thar! The name be Storm.
What's that - ye heard o' me? Indeed, I be the infamous pirate cap'n. But afore I commanded me crew, I was a cabin boy. Ay, a cabin boy.
'Twas many years ago, when I was an orphan livin' on the streets. Me city was near the harbour, 'n I spent many a night staring at the sea. I knew it was me true home, 'n so I waited 'til opportunity struck. It did so in the form of an overheard conversation.
I was lurkin' in an alleyway, when I heard some men coming from a bar. From wha' I could gather, they were pirates. They were talking about the captain lookin' to hire a cabin boy. This was all hushed o' course, but I heard wha' I needed to, including where the ship was docked. 'Twas me chance! The problem was, they had specified that no girls were allowed. This was back when girls were considered bad luck. O' course, I wasn't going to let any unfair rules stop me. I cut my hair and made meself a fake identity. That was that.
Gettin' the job was easy - me time on the streets had taught me a lot, 'n I was a quick learner as well. I quickly fell in love with the ocean. From the salty breeze to the rocking waves, I knew it was a pirate's life for me. It didn't take me long to advance through the ranks, 'til I found meself second in command. Best, I was lucky enough to serve under a good captain. All was well. And then everythin' was thrown into chaos.
It started wit' the blast o' cannons. Suddenly our ship was thrown into turmoil, 'n I realized we were bein' attacked. Afore I knew wha' was happenin', we had been boarded. I didn' fully know what was goin' on, but I fought fer me ship. Fer me cap'n. I felt pain in me side, but still I kept fightin'. Eventually, thar was silence. We had defended our ship, n' driven off the enemy. Except thar had been a casuality. The cap'n hisself.
We mourned. We gave 'im a sea burial. And then, suddenly, I was captain.
At first, I didn' know wha' to do. I hadn't expected to be burdened wit' the responsibility so soon. But aft much deliberation, I decided I would honour my cap'n. I would do it as meself - no more pretendin' I was a lad. And I would become the most feared pirate to sail seven seas.

Deer Name:
Almeterna (Eterna for short)
Their Story:
The seaside village was busy filling up sandbags and putting their more precious belongings higher up in their homes. A storm had been gaining strength and speed for days, and its course was set to smack the villagers head on. In the last minute rush, a local storeowner hurried to the shore near the lighthouse. There he would fill up his bags and quickly stack them in hopes of minimizing water damage.
He backed up his truck to the shore and rushed to grab his bags to fill. There were still a few people out doing the same. He shoveled away for a good hour. When he moved on to the last of his bags, he saw someone standing by the water's edge. Confused, he approached her.
"What are you doing out? The storm is a-coming." She sighed, shaking her head.
"I am aware. I am the keeper of the Lighthouse just at the end of the shore." She looked over her shoulder at the man, who now seemed more at ease. "Storms like this make me remember what I witnessed years ago."
The man recalled all of the stories about the Lighthouse Keeper. They called her Almeterna, a mixture of the Portuguese words for "Soul" and "Eternal". The village was unsure how long she had been keeping watch of the shores, or where she even came from, but they knew she was vital to the safety of many.
"You still seem to have many bags left," She broke his train of thought. "I will help you if you listen to my story." The man agreed, and they both began to work with his bags. "I know you townsfolk do not know much about me, but I know much about you. I grew very close to a particular woman and her husband here." They were interrupted by a thunderous boom in the distance- the first of many. "Her name was Cecilia, and his Stephano. They used to own the same store you do, except the husband was hardly ever home. Their wares were collected by him; He would ship out every other week. I would guide him safely home in the Lighthouse." By now, the beach was thinning out. "They were a lovely family. She had just had twins, but he needed to leave a week later for his bi-weekly run." Almeterna paused, staring at the sand pouring into the bag. "I admit I had a bad feeling about this journey, but I kept quiet. Later that week, there was news of a major storm brewing off our coast."
The man cinched up the last bag and began trekking back to his truck with Almeterna. "I don't like the sound of that."
"You are smart not to. Smarter than I was.". He could feel her guilt emanating. "I was worried sick, and so was she. I invited her to the Lighthouse to help me guide him home. We saw his ship in the distance, just barely through the rain. The light was shining brighter than ever, but the storm was stronger." Almeterna paused as the man tended to his truckload. "Lightning blinded us, and in a moment his ship disappeared. Cecilia ran down the stairs to the beach and stood at the water's edge. I followed, and in utter horror, I saw her lift a plank from the hull. The next morning, his ship littered the shore." He was getting into his truck to leave. "I have never seen so much pain...A week later, Cecilia left. These storms...remind me of them, and my vow to never let it happen again."

Thank you so much! Oh my gosh I'm so happy to have such a gorgeous deerssert. It was so fun to make a bold character for her
and to write in a pirate accent. I'm glad you liked the pirate story.
