WHAT IS A YAEKO?

A Yaeko [yay·kho] (plural: "Yaeki") is a creature from outer space who has somehow found its way into the ecosystem on planet Earth. Roughly the size of a Great Dane, these oddities have long and powerful hind legs enabling them of bipedal movement over short periods of time. Their front legs - structured more like arms - possess three long claws as well as a "thumb" claw. These claws are surprisingly flexible, leading some to believe they may be used as fingers. Yaeki have been observed using these claws to crack open nuts, spear fish and cut open fruits - some even using them to pick locks and open doors. Their heads are encased in a thick layer of "ivory" which works as a protective helmet for their otherwise very sensitive heads. Yaeki communicate through a series of chirps, similar to those of a bird, although domesticated Yaeki may attempt to mimick human speech in the same manner a parrot would. They are intelligent and curious creatures - behaving much like an average toddler - and possess a strong will to learn and please their owners.

The most fascinating aspect of a Yaeko's anatomy is the transparent "dome" attached to their chest. The dome itself appears to be made of some sort of glass-like material. The contents of this dome are unknown, but it appears to contain some sort of colourful liquid or mist. Floating around in the strange substance is a charm. Every Yaeko has their own unique charm used for identification - and surprisingly, keeping nightmares at bay. People with a Yaeko in their household report having fewer nightmares than people who don't. This leads to speculation that Yaeki "trap" good dreams in their domes for safekeeping so their owners may have the same good dreams over again.

How sight was lost-
Daphnis was on the alpha station when it impacted the planet earth with the largest surviving group of Yaeko’s from wherever they were from. Their sight had been impaired from a blinding flash during the crash, but during fitful periods of sleep they began to have strange dreams about a cave.

The cave was always the same with one defining feature a pool of water the water was crystal clear and gemstones littered the bottom so that when the moon passed over an opening in the ceiling it would fill the cave with glimmers of light. When they woke up, or were woken up, from the restless sleep they would never remember what had happened only being able to recall vaguely dreaming about something.

One day when they were out exploring the forest around the skeleton of the ship they had come to earth on, and everything began to have that foreboding sense like she’d been there before but they logically knew that they hadn’t. Soon enough the stumbled across a cave, even with limited eyesight they could admire the beauty of the place as the moon reached its peak.
Suddenly everything went dark the comforting sounds of the water trickling lazily through the cave and the sounds of life in the forest were gone, replaced by a faint dripping sound. A whispery voice seemed to billow over the emptiness wrapping around Daphnis as if to ensnare their very soul.

“Daphnis”, the voice said ominously as the yaeko whirled around in fear trying to see into the darkness to find the source of the voice. “Where am I, you can’t keep my here forever”, they said hoping they sounded much braver than they were. “You have been selected for a special path”, the blackness whispered back, “and do not have to be afraid”.

A glimmer of silvery blue sputtered in front of Daphnis’ face a ghostly Yaeki appearing before them, “We are heading towards dark times, and you are the only warning they will have”. The living yaeko stumbled backwards mouth opening and closing as they tried to summon words, “What am I warning them about, b..better yet who am I warning”.

“The other yaeki that are here on this planet”, the ghostly form said flicking its tail back and forth, “the beings that sent us here have ill intent towards both us and the natives of this place”. “I don’t see how I can do this”, Daphnis said finding their front talons suddenly very interesting. “You will be given the all sight, or an extension your brethren from our old home. Our memories will be your memories, events that have yet to pass will flow behind your eyes before they happen”, the ethereal creature said nodding solemnly, “but you will lose your physical sight”.

“Ok, lets just get this crazy dream over with”, they muttered under their breath. “As you wish”, the ghostly being said waving a front talon in the air. Everything came rushing in all at once the feeling of the outside world coupled with the memories of countless yaeki and their lifetimes.

The feeling of the cold water surrounded them and they swept their tail side to side propelling forwards. They broke the surface of the water and scrambled desperately for a lip to drag themself out of the wetness. Daphnis got to her feet and opened her now pale eyes glancing upwards at what she hoped was the opening to the sky, they could see a thousand versions of worlds years ahead of where they were and shook her head steeling herself for what was to come.

Mechanics-
- Yaeki have ivory plated heads which could be used to help them navigate, in other words they could walk around and bump their heads against things lightly to get their bearings

answer;; Lemongrass loves to make sure his mane is looking good but one day he accidentally got some product in his eyes. He was alone and couldn't find where the sink was to wash it out so it blinded him. He's grown accustomed quickly to living blind and it doesn't bother him at all.
