🌀Chapter 1🌀
Lexie awoke with the feeling something was going to happen. She didn't know if it would be good or bad, but something was happening, tonight, soon. She could hear the soft breathing of her younger brother across the room, but not the quiet night mumbling she often had linked with her mother. The boat lurched under her feet as she slid out of the bed, careful not to think to the floor and awaken her brother. The cabin door squeaked open, the old wood protesting the viscets grasp on the bronze knob. She stepped into the deck, now hearing the occasional shout from a deckhand. A large boat was near them, floating dead in the water, now she understood, it was their mark. Mother didn't always tell her when they were hunting down a ship, but she always had a way of figuring it out. Her mother quickly spotted Lexie, the huge plumed captains hat walking towards her.
"Lexie, what are you doing awake?" Lexie's mother didn't sound mad, just concerned .
"I don't know, I just woke up. "
"Did your brother wake up?"
" No. " Lexie's mother let out a sigh of relief, it always scared the young 'cet to see them plundering a mark. A sailor strode over to Lexie's mom.
"Captain, I've found something." Lexie saw a thin brown viscet, mane the color of a parrot, in the pirates grasp . The Captain glared at the sailor.
"We have a jail downstairs, why do you guys always forget this." The Captain walked with Lexie back to the cabin, hugging Lexie and putting her into bed.
"Goodnight Lexie, see you in the morning."
" Goodnight mom, love you. " The oil lamp burned out, and Lexie slept.
Out to sea.
