kesha levelled her hunting knife at the creature hissing at her. this one almost looked like a kalon in the right light - fiery but intelligent eyes, intention marking its every movement. she’d almost feel bad for taking this one out of its misery if she didn’t know what it was.
a tiny flick of the eyes betrayed which way it was going to lunge, and seconds later kesha embedded her blade in its chest. it screamed, then seconds later dissolved into rust red dust. rage pulsed out from the knife point.
ah. a spirit of anger, and a strong one at that. explained the intelligence.
kesha crumpled to the ground, her whole body throbbing with the intensity of the released rage. she had to say, she much preferred taking down the spirits of sadness. at least all they did was make you sob.
once her hands finally stopped shaking, kesha grabbed the lighter out of her bag and flicked it on, holding the flame near her blade. it popped and hissed, dripping frothing foam onto the ground before the blade once again shone clean. sheathing the blade and tossing the lighter back in her bag, kesha scanned the woods around her for hints of another creature.
she’d taken one down, but there were always more to be found.
