The robin's song is quite beautiful.
If you live in the north, it marks the end of the frosty winter and the beginning of spring. Even if you live somewhere the robins stay year round, it's always nice to lay in the grass, listening to them.
Sailor loved the robins as a kit. Unfortunately, she lived up north, where the robins migrate each winter. That's why it was her least favorite season. Every summer, when the robins are flying from tree to tree, looking for food, she walked around the forest near her house. She loved watching them scurry around.
One day, while on her daily walk, Sailor heard something that sounded unusual compared to the other songs. It sounded like a cry of distress. She followed the sound, and found it led to a huge tree. Beside the bottom of the tree was a nest that had fallen from a higher branch, and three baby robins. Sailor looked up and saw the mother robin, who had been the one calling for her babies. The babies were too big for mama robin to pick up, but too young to fly. Sailor scooped the babies up in the nest and proceeded to climb the tree. The mama robin thought Sailor was going to hurt her babies, so she started dive bombing Sailor, screeching at her. Sailor murmured soothing words to mama robin, and found a thick enough branch so that the nest would not fall. She gently placed the babies and the nest down, and climbed back to the ground. Mama robin seemed to have calmed down. Sailor saw how mama robin reacted when her babies fell, and she was beginning to wonder if robins understood it when Kalons talked to them. She decided to put that question to the test.
"Oh Ms. Robin, you seem to care for your babies a lot!" The robin looked at her and tilted its head to one side, as if she understood.
"Could you please play me one of your beautiful songs? I would happily sing along!" The robin waited a second before bursting into song.
Everyday until the next fall Sailor would sing along with the robin. They would always sing a special song, their song. Sailor would watch the babies grow until, eventually, they sung along as well. In the winter, with a heavy heart, Sailor said goodbye to the robins in hope of seeing them again in the spring.
Over the winter, Sailor had to move. She didn't want to, but her parents needed to. When she moved, she quickly grew busy and forgot all about the robins. She grew older and no longer played the childish games anymore. She eventually bought her own apartment and settled down.
On day, she swore she saw a flash of red in the window. As she approached it to see what it was, she saw that it was a robin. All of her childhood memories flooded back to her as she realized what it was.
"I remember the robins from when we were a kid. I sung a special song to them." Sailor said to nobody in particular. Then the robin started singing. Sailor was astonished to figure out it was her song. The robin's song.
No, it can't be. Momma robin is to old to fly here. She couldn't understand how this robin knew her song.
Wait! It may not be the mother, but it might be one the babies! Yes, it must be! Sailor felt like a hole that she never noticed before has been filled. Her childhood friend found her. Waiting no longer, she sung along with her friend.
