Saturn by Sleeping At Lastwhy are they blue?: (400 words) Ezhno's grandfather had always been a mentor to him, teaching him everything he needed to know. They spent every minute together, and Ezhno was always learning something new. Ezhno could always rely on his grandfather to be there for him. He could talk to him about anything, and always get an honest opinion.
Then Ezhno's worst nightmare happened. He woke up in the middle of the night, experiencing an immense feeling of sadness. He knew something was wrong. He called his grandparents' house phone, and his grandmother answered sleepily, "Ezhno, why are you calling so late? It's the middle of the night." Panicked, he replied,
"Where's grandpa?" "He fell asleep in the living room while watching that show of his, I didn't want to wake him."
"Is he ok?" "Hang on, I'll go check." Ezhno heard the clunk of the phone being set down, and his grandmothers footsteps fading away. His heart dropped to his toes when he heard the faint sound of his grandmother crying. He heard her rush to the other phone and dial. He could hear the shaking of her voice in the distance, the phone being set down, and her footsteps coming back. She picked the phone up, sobbing uncontrollably, and Ezhno heard "Had to call ambulance, he's not breathing very well", and even more crying.
"I'll be right there." He hung up the phone, and ran out the door. He didn't care that he wasn't dressed, or that his grandparents lived 20 minutes away. He ran the entire way there, his adrenaline pumping. He arrived in 15 minutes, and saw the paramedics loading his grandfather into the ambulance. He heard one say, "We have to hurry to the hospital, don't know how much longer he'll make it." His adrenaline still pumping, Ezhno ran to his grandmother. She was sobbing, so when she saw him, she couldn't help but pull him tight and thank him for calling her. She didn't know what she would've done if he hadn't, and she told him that the paramedics had said that he could be saved. A week later, Ezhno's grandfather passed away in the hospital from health problems. Ezhno slowly fell into a depression, only acting happy to cheer his grandmother up. He knew nothing would be the same, but he was grateful to have learned what he did from his grandfather. (392)
