Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. These two golden babies came in at separate times however due to some space issues at the time, these two were put in the same kennel. I'm not sure about how the Borzoi feels about the kitty but they seem to get along okay. The borzoi had some chemical burns and there are some scars along their back, face and on their back legs that simply won't heal. So, in case they are a bit sensitive in those areas, please be careful. The little Maine coon boy cuddled up to Rei so much and seems to be very friendly with dogs so she took him home. He actually has 1 extra toe on both back and front paws.

despite the fact that she is much larger, tessa is absolutely terrified of thor. although the feline likes dogs and is quite friendly towards tessa, she refuses to accept any of his affection, instead choosing to cower away from him. it's quite amusing, really, to see a big dog hide from a cat.

Their thoughts on the cat:

Lokie girl here, she does not really mind Thor that much. At first, however, she could be a bit touchy towards him, as she has scars on a lot of her body, and he often would be trying to rub against her. Of course, he didn't know it caused her pain, and it was too be expected she was touchy as per the pain her scars can cause if touched the wrong way. After a few nips and low growls, however, Thor started to test rubbing in different areas, and if she'd show teeth he'd back up. If she did nothing, that was his signal he was alright to keep going. They are still very good friends, though he has found a home.

Their thoughts on the cat: Valkyrie is a very dignified, aloof dog. She likes her space, she likes remaining in control, and she likes appearing calm, cool, and collected. However, Thor tends to ruin this image for her with his unwanted affection and adoration. With these two it is almost like a switch, Valkyrie acting like the cat, aloof, grumpy, and wanting attention on her terms. And Thor, well, not quite so much when it comes to personal contact. Valkyrie gets easily annoyed when he crosses her barriers physically, rubbing up against her and purring. She tends to panic and in her mind this message flashes in bright lights: "Alert! ALERT! The bubble of space has been broken."
This drives her crazy and she will purposely walk in the opposite direction if she sees Thor coming.
Unfortunately, he seems to adore her no matter what she does to deter him, and Valkyrie sometimes wonders where he even gets half his patience.
This affection usually seems unrequited. . .

But at times, when things are hard, like in the shelter, Valkryie has come to, even just briefly, appreciate Thor's loyalty and presence. Because as much as she acts confident, calm, and in control, inside her past has scarred her until she has believed herself beyond repair. In times when her mask slides and her pain comes back strong she will accept Thor more readily, because in the end it was him who stood by her, despite her issues and her past.

(Of course, that hasn't stopped her from trying to push him into a bath every now and then . . .)

Personality:
Valkyrie strives to maintain an image of control, calm, collected, and invincible. She does this, so no one will see how things really are, how she cries in her sleep, how the events of her past have scarred her, both physically and emotionally.
More than anything she fears being thought of as weak and losing her control.
She is afraid of being hurt again, so she withdraws into herself, into the shell she has made.
Part of her hates her own actions, yearning for friends and love again, but the practical and scared side to her always overrules everything else as she builds up walls around herself.
Sometimes she feels as if she isn't even herself anymore, watching her own actions and life unfold from the outside. Almost as if the true her has retreated to a place where she will never emerge again.
Though she would never admit it, in her darkest moments she actually welcomes the attention of her one true friend, Thor. He has an unending patience with her it seems, even when her outer self seems snappy, gruff, and aloof. Deep down she cherishes their odd relationship, but she is afraid to admit it or let it become too important to her, because she doesn't want to experience the hurt losing it would bring.

lanie loves thor. like, unconditional love, no matter what.
she's always following him around and licking his face. (sometimes to the disgust of the cat.)
lanie always tries to play with him, too. even though he doesn't really get fetch, he likes the attention, and she likes his company.
thor was tentative at first when meeting the dog, but lanie didn't hesitate before bounding over and giving him a big kiss.
the two like to sleep cuddled up together as well, which they both enjoy.
sometimes though, lanie's love is a little too much and she gets a paw to the face, but that never stops her.
thor has let her forget about her past and find a new life.
