Deerssert are a mystical, mythological species that appear in history every so often. Sightings grew sparser and sparser through the years, but now they've started to appear more and more. Here at the HQ, a centre dedicated to keeping these creatures from being hunted, we cannot foster them all-- and that's where you come in!

The simplest way to explain them? Deersserts are deer with a twist! While the specifics vary from deer to deer, they all have a few things in common. Deersserts have muscle, skin, fur and bone, but they are described as tasting like sweets. Their scent lingers so much that hides carry a fragrant scent even after death. Instead of fluffy tails, they have a pouf of whipped cream or ice cream [depending on the deer!] with some manner of fruit on top.

Dragon deer! This one is loosely based off Yellow Dragon.

For this competition, your requirement is to write a write a story (maximum 800 words) about their relationship with water. If you desire, you can include any one (1) extra of your choice.

Story;; Deucalion's relation with water is a serious one. Once a brilliant blue hue, his colors slowly became more and more mucky over time. He walks the waters like we walk the roads. Over time, he noticed they were dying to a certain extent. The waters were full of trash and chemicals. The waters were odd colors, nothing like the blue he always knew. Even the oceans changed, full of a sticky black substance that killed all it touched. Deucalion thought it a disease. He referred to it as the Water's Blight. As the waters became sick, so did he. His body now colored a filthy color, the color the waters now were. He felt weak, like the life within the waters. Over time, he discovered the cause of the Water's Blight. It was us, Man. Being a water spirit, Deucalion set out to confront Man and teach them the error of their ways. However, to his dismay, Man cared little. He now hates Man, as they refuse to cure the Water's Blight and restore the world to it's former glory.

Story;; Mizu was young when he first discovered that his parents threw him out, he wondered off by the sea with nothing to get mad about but he did cry.. The sea sent small waves, one slapping his nose softly, He watched as it opened up a pathway and let him through. He was always called from other deersserts "Mizu the Water weirdo!" He loved the water but everyone thought it was creepy how he could burn up with anger then stomp off, take a bath and he was so relaxed he couldn't get mad.
Soon after he was old enough to go outside without anybody coming just to check on him, he sat at the beach and said to the water "For what is your desire as being the sea? Why do you like the connection with... Me?" the sea made a mini whirlpool and a deerssert as big as him but made from water appeared, standing on top of the water, it said in a clear voice "You see past the sea, I see past you, we are like brother and sister, for I see that we can be." Mizu thought he was going crazy but then said with a little excitement "I would love to be with the sea, swim with the waves, be one with the sea is my dream, this is a dream come true you see?" The sea was very gentle, loved to make Mizu laugh and seemed almost attached to him, Mizu to this day still lives with the sea, but where is he? It is told he lives beneath the stars that connect to make a wave, follow the stars and you come to the tropical and water filled island, you will find Mizu befriending with other animals, along with sea.

Story;; Honest to the gods above this dragon looking deerssert is attracted to water like people are to money. It likes waterfalls with caves hidden behind them so that it may stay reclusive during most the year with a few rare occasions that it will go out. On full moons or new moons it will wander out looking for treasures to hide in its many caves in its territory. If you do come upon it you may not notice till your right on top of it in the water as its eating water grasses. It is very attached to its water and thinks of it as a precious hoard like its many shiny rocks it collects from the banks of the river and waterfall it calls home. It will often migrate to warmer waters if it gets to cold in the local area often being seen during these times then at any other time in the year.

Story;
Ryuu was never one to get too involved in the business of others specially humans. He often found them simple and barbaric so he avoided them like the plague as to not get caught up in another one of their silly wars. But this all changed when he met her by the rivier..
It was a normal day and Ryuu was walking by a fast moving river, he loved the water and it almost seemed to bed to his will even when it seemed like it didn't. There was a heavy rain last night and the water has higher then normal and the banks were all mud. Ryuu was naturally very graceful and was able to keep on his feet but something caught him for surprised and he nearly fell in.
A small human girl probably about 3 or 4 had fallen into the river, Ryuu knew she would drown if he left her and agents his own mind he waited in the water a bit and used his tail to pull her out. He carried her on his back to a dry spot away from the river and set her down. He wasn't sure if she was alive or not so he leaned in closer only to get a face full of water as the girl coughed it up.
She rolled onto her side and coughed up the rest will he looked down at her unamused and wet by what just happened.
She sat up and looked up at him just realizing he was there and asked if he was the one who had saved her and he nodded in
agreement. She smiles and thanked him for his kindness, Ryuu was about to tell her to think nothing of it and she pulled out a flower and put it behind his ear and bowed. This flower only grows by the rivers and is very sought after by human's for medicine and teas. Ryuu was shocked at the human's gesture as well as a bit embarrassed, she asked him to accept the flower as a offering for saving her life. Ryuu gave a small nod but scolded then girl for getting too close to the river when it was so dangerous
he anticipated for her to get upset and yell back or something as he's seen other humans do, but she only thanked him again and promised to be careful around the river.
She then got up bowed and thanked him again but called him Guardian of the River, before Ryuu could correct her she had left. He was in awe of the name she had given him and he actually liked the sound of it. For the next few years he came to the river every day, where he had met the girl in hopes to see her again as he had become attached to the little human. But instead every day she would have left him a offering of either flowers or food at the spot she had laid her down.
It turned out there was a village near by and once they got word a dragon-like being had saved a girl from the river they even made a small shrine where she had left gifts for Ryuu. He eventually got to see her again face to face but she was not like he remembered she was much older and it seemed with little ones of her own. She smiled kindly at him and greeted him like a friend
would greet another who they had not see in a long time. She bowed and finally asked for the name of the one who had saved her and Ryuu told her his name. she smiled, leaved her offering and left with her children in tow.
It has been years since then and Ryuu still misses the human girl who gave him his name Ryuu,the Guardian of the River..
