Actually, she's a very sensitive young lady who was groomed into showing no emotions. Her deepest fear is showing her emotions- her weakness- to other people. She desperately wants to be seen as someone emotionless, fearless and even cold-blooded, but she just isn't that type. She'll go to great extents to "prove" she is capable of being cold and malicious, and tends to snap into a sort of dissociative "mode" when she does so because she's emotionally quite fragile. Though she has no qualms with killing as she consciously makes the effort to block out the implications, even the slightest praise or criticism from someone she's let through her emotional wall can probably put her in tears.
It's ironic, really, when you consider she can stare down monsters without flinching, yet one misplaced comment from a person she cares about can reduce her to the emotional state of a five year old.

Backstory: Medfant setting. Taken off the streets as an orphan. Was raised by a rich tradesman who taught her how to kill his business competitors and treated her as basically no more than a tool. Eventually the two came to a disagreement and she ended up running away, and she's been wandering around taking odd jobs and paid hits ever since.
