Iris glared at her father, her eyes filling with tears. She turned and ran to her room, sobbing.
She hated arguing with her dad. Hated it.
A few hours later, Iris went to her mother, who was cooking dinner.
"Mom," she had said. "How much do you love me?"
Her mom replied, "I love you to the moon and back, except for those times when you yell at your father and I."
Iris, satisfied, went to her brother, who was playing video games.
"Brother," she had said. "How much do you love me?"
Her brother replied, "I love you to the moon and back, except for those times you get angry at me and hit me."
Iris, once again satisfied, went to her father, who was watching TV.
"Father," Iris said. "How much do you love me?"
Her father replied, "I love you to the moon and back, except for those times when we argue with each other."
Iris, fully satisfied, called her family to the living room.
"What's this about?" Her mother asked, anxiously wringing a dish towel in her hands.
"Yeah, what is this about?" Her father asked, eyeing her.
"Well. I asked all of you the question 'how much do you love me?' and you all said 'I love you to the moon and back.'" Iris said. "You all said something that you didn't like about me, correct?"
Her family nodded in unison.
Iris blinked. "I didn't get upset from what you had said, correct?"
Again, her family nodded.
"I wanted to show you all that what you said about me didn't hurt my feelings, it didn't dim my lights." Iris said, and grinned at her family.
"Well, I love you all to the moon and back, too." She said, and gave her family a hug.
