he's very snarky and smug, high maintenance but romantically averse
not asexual but very difficult to really get involved with others (romantically anyway)
other than that he's a social butterfly

quite particular with the gems used; if they don't look right to him he just throws them out
-aka extremely wasteful and inconsiderate
-a bit narcissistic

-story could possibly be about him growing into the job / maybe developing such a shallow personality?
-he'd always been that way but it only grew stronger as others lowered his faith in them / as people began to dislike him for it
-'ok no one likes me?? whatever I like myself just enough to get on'
-getting interested in the jewelry business
-very clumsily becomes a self-taught jewelry maker
-existential crisis whIle he sucks really bad and he sort of has a breakdown but he's like 'you know what if I suck I'll own it and people can have my trashy gems creations'

world-wise he actually lives in a place where jewels represent class and power
aka a king would wear a broach with an expensive or vibrant stone but a peasant would wear unclean or dark and unrefined stones with poor casing
(no steven universe influence nor any mention)

so he would start as a very terrible peasant jeweler but as his narcissistic personality forces him onward to be a good bad jeweler he actually develops his ability and imbues grace into the gems
doesn't make it to the tip top but he does advance to a comfortable work place and pay for his work
he himself wears a broach with a gem matching his eye color--specific stone not decided yet
