Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

Chauncey misses all the nice shade from the trees to enjoy her popsicles underneath. When the days start getting shorter and the nights get longer she is reminded of how much fun she had over the summer, and how it's going to start getting very chilly outside. She misses all the farmers markets, especially the peaches and fresh corn she obtained from them. Fall is still very pretty to her though, she loves to go on hikes and take scenic pictures of the colorful trees with mountains in the background.

What do they miss about summer once fall rolls around?
You'd think she misses the hot rays of the sun warming her fur but in truth she misses one thing most. Cold drinks. Be it a glass of lemonade with ice decorated in different colors thanks to her food coloring or a refreshing cup of an ice Frappuccino from her local coffee shop. She misses the coldness of the liquid as she pours in down her throat and the refreshing buzz it gives her. Sometimes just for the fun of it she shouts "Brain freeze!" and all her friends turn around concerned but then break down into tears of laughter at the funny expression she makes. The expression she shows is her own personal trademark. A "Birch Original" as her friends call it: part horrified actress, part zombie, part serial killer but all funny. Although during the fall she can spend time with her friends drinking hot drinks such as a chamomile tea and hot coco; she can't make them laugh with her brain freeze expression which is tied specifically to the hot weather that comes around every summer.

As Adelaide walked briskly to her job in the small city, she noticed a small, orange leaf blowing gently through the wind, gliding down to the floor beneath her feet.
She heaved a sigh, wrangled the keys out of her pocket, and walked up the steps of the small building, opening it quickly.
Inside, she was met instantly with the fresh smell of strawberries. She breathed in the scent softly, treasuring it. This was one of her favorite things about her job at the jam emporium; the scent.
“Adelaide?” came from the mouth of her boss, rounding the corner. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m working,” Adelaide said happily, tying on her apron.
“Adelaide, it’s September,” her boss replied.
Adelaide stopped. She knew what was coming.
“You can’t work here anymore, Addy. It was a summer job,” her boss finished.
"But this job's my life!" Adelaide protested, feeling her heart sink.
"I'm sorry. We just can't keep you. Please understand."
“Can I… take a jar home?” Adelaide mumbled out, feeling crushed.
“Yeah. Sure.”
Adelaide carefully selected a jar of her favorite jam, cradling it close to her chest.
She didn’t look at her boss before walking out, back onto the streets, hopeless and carrying a jar of grape and raspberry jam.
She looked up to the sky, broken by clouds, and observed all the leaves on the streets.
“Goodbye,” she whispered to the atmosphere.
