drip. drop.the sound of
chase dropping water on the ground startled chestnut.
" cmon dude, you know that sound sets me on edge. "
chase giggled, slipping down the protective glass on his helmet. it was pure black, rain dripping down the side, giving it an eerie shimmer. chestnut smiled at chase, sliding his glass down aswell. his vision fogged slightly, colors all dimming instantaneously. they both grabbed a nerf gun, each on with a different color striped across the left side, matching the striped on their helmets. chase wielded a blue marked gun, the barrel filled with foam bullets. chestnut's gun modeled a neat red line straight across the side, looking quite contour. chestnut laughed and ran behind his large pillow fortress, peeking over the soft wall to shoot 'bullets' at chase's opposing fort. chase smiled misheviously and shot bullets right back, retreating behind the fort when he was pelted with foam.
" secret weapon, don't fail me now! "
chestnut whisper shouted, attaching a nerf gun to his border collie's black harness and taping down the trigger. bullets flew out, and chestnut grinned and threw a dog treats t chase, making a bomb sound effect with his mouth, spit flying. chase giggled angrily, jumping around as the dog board around for the treat.
" no fair, no fair! "
chestnut cracked up.
" I'll go get your dogs, it'll be fair. "
chestnut ran outside onto chase's porch, chase right behind him. the door snapped shut, and they both gasped as the pounded the door and twisted the knob furiously.
" no! we.. we are locked out.. "
chestnut mumbled, voice a diminuendo. he was frustrated, you could tell because two parallel veins appeared on his forehead as he paced anxiously on the porch.
" all the doors are locked, but cardinal always keeps her window open at night. "
chase nodded, trying to remember the way up to the window cardinal had showed him.
" on the roof. "
chestnut was rigid, trying to decide if sleeping in the dog house was so bad. eventually chase pulled him into it.
" well, can you give me a boost up? "
chase asked, ear flopping over, a curious tone to his voice. chestnut grinned and laced his fingers together, cradling chase's foot in his hand and pushing him onto the oak tree branch. chase nodded and leaned his hand down, waiting for chestnut to latch on. when he was on tight, he heaved backwards, throwing chestnut onto the sturdy branch. they walked gingerly about, rain slicking the wooden roof. chase called out triumphantly as the window sat open in front of them, just wishing reach.
just one.. more.. step -
chestnut screeched as the roof collapsed below him, and he cried out when he landed atop a surprised and shaken up cardinal.
