#4958 Bay Sabino

Postby Sezzas » Sat May 07, 2016 6:49 am

The third tolter of my 'horse breeds' theme!
This guy has been sitting in my drafts for quite a while. They've been ready to post,
I just haven't really had the time and/or motivation to post 'em.
As many of you probably have alreay guessed - this is the "Clydesdale".

Here comes the facts!

Energetic - Strong - Active

Image

The descendants of the Clydesdale are farm
horses from Clydesdale, Scotland. It was
originally a quite small draught horse but today
it is a fairly tall breed. They are known for their
classic appearance of a bay colour with high
white stockings and a broad blaze. Their gait is
active with a general impression of power and
quality. The Clydesdale was originally used for
agriculture and haulage and still today is it used
for draught purposes.

The first recorded use of the name "Clydesdale"
for the breed was in 1826. The first breed
registry was formed in 1877. In the late 19th
and early 20th century thousands of Clydesdales
were exported to different parts of the world,
including Australia and New Zealand. During
World War I the population numbers began
to drop and by the 1970's the Rare Breeds
Survival Trust
considered the breed
vulnerable to extinction. Since then the
numbers have increased slightly again
but they are still thought to be vulnerable.
Short facts!

Country of Origin: Scotland
Coat Colors: Most commonly bay however black,
chestnut and roan may occur.
Markings: Sabino.
Distinguishing features: Draft-type, generally bay with
sabino-like characteristics and feathering.
Height: 16hh - 18hh (64 - 72 inches, 163 - 183 cm)
Fun fact: "The conformation of the Clydesdale has
changed greatly throughout its history. In the 1920s and 1930s,
it was a compact horse smaller than the Shire, Percheron,
and Belgian."

To have a chance at this tolter I want you to tell me about their companion. This can be told via art, writing, poetry, comics - you name it. You choose how you want to tell me about them, and what you want to tell. It can be about their relationship, how they met, their favorite thing to do, a memory of theirs etc.
I want realistic companions. This means animals, (yes, I don't want any humans), that could actually appear on a farm in real life and would get along with a horse.

Good examples of companions: bunny, wild horse, deer, alpaca, hedgehog, bird, snake, CS species that's alike any of the "acceptable" companions.
Bad examples of companions: lion, bear, dragon, really odd CS species.

You may use other tolters or other CS species as long as that specific species would be a somewhat realistic companion.
If you're really unsure whether the companion you have in mind is acceptable or not, just send me a PM and I'll get back to you asap! c:

You may not pretty up your form.
You're only allowed 1 art piece (1 comic page counts as 1 art piece).
    Writing limit is 3 pharagraphs.

Edits & breeding notes:
Mane & tail edit.
Leg feathering.
Convex nose.
Thicker neck & shoulders.
-
Mane & tail edit may pass to two foals.
Leg feathering may pass to two foals.
Convex nose may pass to two foals.
If a foal inherits more than one edit it still counts on all edits.
For example: If they get a foal with both a convex nose and leg feathering
these two edits can only be inherited once more, either on the same foal
or on separate ones.
These edits will not pass past 2nd generation.

The image is above.
It was taken when we first introduced the heart broken Mare to the odd little snow ball that was found crying in a hay field. In all honesty, the small deer was lucky that the farm hand driving the tractor had seen him with enough time to stop, but how could be miss the small snow white dollop sitting in the sea of green grass. The small deer was growing cold, and had obviously been left alone for some time. After waiting over 4 hours for the mother to return, the farm hand scooped the sad looking creature up and headed back to the barn to try to save her before it was too late.

We had been trying to find the Mare a foster baby since her own had been stolen from the farm. No one really knew where the baby had gone, but each and every person hoped for the best. The mare however, was despondent. She was forlorn and refused to do any sort of work, or even touch her food. Standing sullenly in the corner, the mare simly had given up.

Until the fateful day when we brought these two together. The Mare took to the small fawn like peanut Butter to a jelly sandwich. She somehow accepted this small, weak fawn as her own and begun to take over mothering duties. If anyone approached, she would quickly shoo them off unless she knew they were here to feed or care for the baby. We decided to name the deer Mercy, since it was an act beyond our wildest dreams that saved Tiana.

Name: Ailsa (Means "Island of Alfsigr" in Scottish)
Gender: Mare
Companion: Ailsa's best friend is a red fox, who she met when he was just a pup. Ailsa was out grazing when suddenly a tiny fox pup burst out from the forest near her paddock. Close behind him were two stray dogs, who were intent on catching the poor pup. The fox ran straight through Ailsa's legs and paused behind her. The two dogs skidded to a halt as they came face to face with the tolter. With a stamp of her hoof and a loud snort, she sent the dogs running, they knew better than to mess with this powerful horse. She turned to look at he pup who lay trembling behind her. He was clearly exhausted and terrified, and was covered in cuts and scratches that he had gotten from the chase. She gently picked him up and brought him to a stream where he lapped up some water. She dropped him near her paddocks fence and lay down to take a nap.

She woke up to a tugging on her ear. It was the young pup, who seemed to have perked up. He was very playful, and began jumping and biting on Alisa. She tried to shoo him away, but he had no intention of leaving. She looked down at the poor pup, thinking on all that he had been through. He was likely an orphan, lost and alone in the forest. She decided to let him stay, he needed someone to look after him after all. It was from then that their bond grew. Ailsa helped him find food and to fend for himself, she even played with him sometimes. The fox always sought Alisa for protection, standing between her legs if he ever felt threatened or scared.

Eventually, the pup became a tod and he left Ailsa to live in the forest. But that didn't stop them from seeing each other. The fox would regularly visit Alisa, and the two would run and play together. Sometimes in winter, the fox would sneak into Alisa's stable and the two would cuddle up together to keep warm. The fox became somewhat of a celebrity in the area, as passer-by's would stop as they drove past to watch the two playing together in the paddock. The locals gave him the name 'Achaius' which means "Friend of a Horse" in Scottish.
