1. First Encounter
I arrived to the barn where the Wari rescues were located. I walked do the aisle where my boy, Onyx was. I noticed that he was well built but was scared. He was standing in the back corner of the stall, trying to keep as far away from me as possible. I reached my hand out with a treat in it to see if he would come over to me. He stood tensely and looked at the treat. He wanted it and took a step towards it, and another, and another. He was maybe a foot away from my hand as he reached out and took the treat. I opened the sliding stall door that kept Onyx enclosed. I had a teal halter that I soon placed on his head. I fastened it loosely so that if he wanted to spook, he had room to move his head. Outside the barn, my red trailer was parked so that I could take my new boy home. I lead Onyx to the trailer to see if he would load cleanly. He spooked several times. It took probably a whole hour to get him loaded. I started up the truck and was headed off towards home.

2. Introduction to Tack
I lead Onyx to the cross ties where I clipped him up to the en longed leads. I went to the tack room to grab my saddle, saddle pad, bridle, and martingale. I brought it all out to the saddle rack next to where Onyx stood. He looked over at the tack and took a step back. I started to groom him when he started to paw at the ground. I patted his side and told him to stop pawing. He did, so I grabbed the saddle pad and started to rub it along his sides. He started to walk around uncomfortably, so I stopped to reward him. I placed the saddle blanket on his back and rubbed his neck. Next, I let Onyx smell the saddle. After a while of him smelling the saddle, I placed it on his back. He stomped his foot once, so I backed away to give him space. I fastened the girth and gave him a treat. Onyx had already been used to the halter, so I figured a bosal bridle would bother him too much. I put it on him and led him to the arena where he would soon be lunged.

3. First Ride
Once I finished lunging Onyx, I led him to the mounting block to get on his English saddle. I mounted on to him before he started to walk. I lightly pulled on the reins to move him to the outside of the arena. Once he was to the outside of the ring, he began to gallop. I pulled back on him to slow him down. He continued to gallop, so I steered him into a small circle which continued to get smaller. Because my mom was a horse trainer, I know that if a horse takes off on you, steer them in a circle to slow them down because they get bored after a few circles. Onyx slowed down and I pat him on the side to reward him for slowing down. My sister entered with her Wari who she trained last year. Her name was Charlie. She mounted Charlie and headed towards Onyx and I. We walked around the arena together to warm up our Waris. After we warmed the two up, we set up some small ground poles and cones up to get a feel on how they are doing at this point with obstacles . Charlie and Onyx began to canter around the cones. Onyx was skeptical of the obstacles at first, but once he saw Charlie go over the poles and through the cones, he was interested and wanted to try it. His canter was so smooth and he went over the ground poles flawlessly. Because Onyx did so good today, I thought I would enter him in an upcoming show that occurs in two months so that I could still train him.
