A Memory of A Memory
Of Blizzard and Snow
By myself, ☁Lady Raincloud☁
Dark was the sky on the moonless night,
Swift had the twilight faded,
Quiet was the murky, ice covered lake,
Off into the woods she was taken.
Swift were their steps, watchful, their eyes,
Their whispers kept soft, and low
Black was the shadow that crept behind them,
White were their faces, white as snow.
Snow drifted round in a blurry flash,
"Careful." Said a voice in a whisper.
"Have Courage" said another, and, swifter than the other,
The voice faded off in the distance.
Quiet was the night without a star,
Swift was the figure below,
Tired was the one who followed behind,
Doom crept, unnoticed, in tow.
"I fear for them, I fear for us." Said she, now not far behind.
"Have courage, and on wards, and forwards, my love." Said he, as he paused, and looked out through the dark.
Said she, "I can't see a thing in the dark, in the snow."
Said he, "Just follow my voice, and you'll know."
Said the phantom behind, in a voice nonexistent,
"Beware of the blizzard, beware of the snow."
Yet only she heard, and only she knew.
He was heedless, and stubborn,
He had nothing to loose.
Came the blizzard around them,
and the forest trees sighed,
And the phantom was watching,
With eyes cold as ice.
No, there was nothing behind them,
No, the phantom was not quite real,
Yes, there was danger to follow,
Yes, and the blizzard she feared.
And so arose the sun, upon the next morning,
That found her all alone,
Lost was the one she had wanted to save,
Yet gone was the phantom in tow.
