How and why he took in the owl [get creative!!!]; Ju, as he refers to himself as, took in this owl because it was one of the only things that remained the same colour as if a "normal" Pseudo were looking at it. You see, Ju was born with achromatopsia, which makes it so everything has 'no colour'. He can only see things in black and white, like an old tv set. This simple little bird makes him feel as if he fits in. It's confusing logic that only Ju and the little bird, who this pseudo calls Chro (pronounced like crow), understand.
