Well, well.
Untrained W.A.G.
When a gryffon is born, it is taken from the mother at early age and fed with a special boosting ration. They become slimmer yet gain muscle mass, which make some griffins look rather strange - the crow headed griffins, for example, look like they have small heads. Eagle headed griffins, on the other hand, look like their head is huge.
These griffins are put to fight one another - the one that loses is usually prived from being fed for a day or two. If it ends up dying, however, it serves as food to the winner. The loser's parents are likely to be killed as well, for their genoma combined was not efficient. Either this, or they kill the female (if the male has a good reputation) and pair him up with another female, and vice versa.
The 'babies' that show the best results often have to go through blood collection so the scientists working in the offspring field can make use of its DNA.
Besides from going through rough risking trainments such as this, they train them to be fully submissive to humans - after all, a rebellion is the last thing they would wish for, taking into consideration that they live in a constant threat by the sabertooth tigers.
