Natan

Name of your Creature:
Natan
Information about your creature:
Natans are rather large sea dwelling fish. However, they are anadromous fish which means that they lay their eggs in fresh water. Some live fairly deep into the ocean and sometimes are bioluminescent. The largest recorded was eight meters long while most are around two-two and a half meters.
They have a frill which runs down their back, two pectoral fins, and a large dorsal fin behind the head. Unlike most fish the dorsal fin runs perpendicular to the midline. It has been determined that Natans spread out this large dorsal fin and use the highly sensitive spines in it to detect movement. However, in order to gain speed when fleeing or attacking they lie this large fin close to their back. This dorsal fin is often a bright color compared to the rest of the body.
To swim Natans use both their pectoral fins and a wriggling motion like an eel. All of their bones are made out of a very flexible cartilidge making them able to squeeze through almost any space.
Natans are carnivors and often prey upon smaller fish by chasing them down with an equal mixture of speed and stamina.
Attitude/Personality:
Natans are rather impish and inquisitve creatures. They will often investigate fishing boats by bumping up against them. When they feel threatened, on the other hand, they will puff out their large dorsal fin and become very agressive. Natans are generally solitary creatures but on occasion they will form a temporary school to take down large prey.
Climate:
Natans live in a variety of places. They usually tend to live in more temperate waters. Some varieties live in deep ocean waters but most live along the coast so they can travel inland to lay their eggs.
Structure(Bulky,Skimpy etc.): Natans have a long round body. They continue to grow through out their life and increase in diameter. Young Natans can be as thin as pencil while the oldest recorded have been over half a meter across!
Anything else?:
They can come in any color though the main body is usually a dull or cool color and the dorsal fin is more bright and warmer.
