Why do you want this character?

Well, first of all, he seems like a character that would have, well, a lot of character. Something about the stance, and the mask-like marking makes him seem like a gruff character- the type I like to role-play with. Beyond that potential for interesting character development, he also is just interesting to look at. I love the shorter tail and the raccoon pattern. He's just very interesting to me, and really caught my eye as I was scrolling through the whole list.

Where will you use it, and what will you use it for?

In general I use characters for role play, and I'm sure I'll find a good one to use this guy in should I adopt him. I also just like to get art for characters after I have really found their personality through role play. In fact, as I right his personality, I have started thinking of a great plot for a 1x1 that I'd love to do with a character like him. So, eventually I might just hang around the DCAY thread doing art so that I can get some for my own chars.

Personality:

Batu is stoic. He is sometimes accused of lacking a scene of humor. In truth though his humor dry, and often in the form of sarcasm. Batu is not the most divine individual. In fact, he has one of the more tarnished reputations. He has been known to be deceitful, double-crossing his affiliates and always watching his own pelt with little concern for others. He is hardened by his past and doesn't feel the guilt that should accompany some of his actions. Well, he tells himself he doesn't feel the guilt anyway, and that surpasses it well enough. Somewhere deep inside him he does feel remorse for betraying everyone he has come in contact with. He just hasn't acknowledged these feelings.

Ultimately Batu is a lone wolf, finding himself unable to trust anyone long enough to form a pack. Rather he manipulates and then gets chased out by any group he comes in contact with. He has been in quite a few fights before. His attitude can be flippant, and even provocative, so it is no wonder he can get himself into trouble with other canines. When living in the wilds with only one's self to rely on, they have to become rugged and tenacious. Batu is both of these things. He has an iron spirit that refuses to surrender even in the toughest of circumstances, and nothing can keep him down for long. Thus, even though he is a loner, he has formed the reputation of a powerful force with an unquenchable soul.

History:

Batu has hung with some of the darker characters since his youth. He has walked with wolves with dark intents as a mercenary of sorts. However, he isn't in it for what ever cause he was recruited for. No, instead he has been in it for his own personal gain, often rising up the ranks of trust until his can suddenly break away, dragging something valuable of with him as he deserts. He has made quite a few enemies with this stunt, and as the numbers add up it should start to be a concern for him, but being the arrogant wolf he is he challenges those old alphas to catch him.

He only got into this lifestyle because he lacked a pack in his youth. Growing up with limited contact from other canines has made Batu feel as though he doesn't need help from others at all in the slightest.

When he was young, Batu stole his food from other animals. He couldn't hunt for himself, and his parents had abandoned him, so instead he had to scare off crows and even foxes when times were especially tough to get food. This was when he was a few months old, when he was young and small, yet developed enough to at least run and bark. As Batu grew he was able to take on tougher opponents and then eventually he was even able to take down smaller prey himself.

After rounding off his first year of life, Batu stumbled across a pack. Lead by a war-hungry alpha, this pack was looking for any new recruits that could help them take out wolves on neighboring lands. Batu joined, and he was a good member of the pack. The only problem was that he didn't really understand the point of the pack. Sure, they worked together to feed everyone, and to help in battle and such, but Batu had felt he had been more successful on his own. So, one night Batu made a decision that would permanently change his way of life. For the first time, Batu stole the carcass of the pack kill while the rest of the pack was asleep, expecting him to be on guard. Under the cloak of night, he ran, never looking back. Over the course of the next few years this cycle repeated many times. Batu found more packs and joined them, only to take flight in the middle of the night with something valuable.

It wasn't too long before a reputation spread, and it became more difficult to preform this stunt. In fact, he was ambushed once or twice by the packs he betrayed. Deciding it would be best to let the wolves calm down a bit, Batu moved towards the city, lodging in the outskirts of a town. thanks to his unusual markings, humans passed him off as a mangy dog rather than the wild wolf he was.

Likes, dislikes:

There are a lot of things Batu dislikes. Attention is one of them. Socialization is another. In fact, civilization and other life forms in general tend to rub him the wrong way.

Despite his hard exterior, there are some things that Batu enjoys. Silence is one such thing. He likes the sound of nothingness. Another is snow, for much the same reason. Something about the white blanket covering the land brings a sense of serenity to him.

Personality: Sweet, loving, calm, brave, smart, loyal
History: Birchkit was found outside of the SilverClan camp one night while half the Clan was at a Gathering. Unbeknownst to the Clan, Birchkit's mother was Dovesong, a white she-cat notoriously known for abandoning her Clan during a scuffle with some rogues, for she was deeply in love with a particular rogue, Flame. She had a litter of four kits, but Birchkit was the only survivor. After having her kits, Shade heartlessly left Swiftstream to build a life with another rogue. Alone and regretful for leaving her Clan, Dovesong left Birchkit at the entrance to the SilverClan camp, hoping that someone would find her. The next day, Dovesong was hit on a nearby Thunderpath.

Birchkit was eventually found by a young warrior named Oakfoot. Mistyleaf, a queen who had recently had two kits in the past quarter moon, adopted Birchkit as one of her own. Many warriors of SilverClan were disproving of the tiny kit, including the Clan leader, Marshstar. Spottedkit grew up alongside her foster brother and sister, Nightkit and Icekit.

A few moons later, the three kits became apprentices and became known as Birchpaw, Icepaw, and Nightpaw. Spottedpaw's mentor was an old, experienced she-cat named Sunleap. During a hunting assessment one day, Birchpaw was tasked to bring back at least three pieces of prey. As she was hunting, she came across a huge black tom named Leopardpaw. She attacked him, and nearly badly injured him before she realized that he meant no harm. Leopardpaw reveals that he used to be a part of DawnClan before he was exiled around five moons prior by their fierce leader, Reedstar, because he was too small. He had since spent his days training by challenging rogues that lived far up north to fight, thus becoming the huge cat he was. He and Birchpaw instantly became friends, and began seeing each other every time Birchpaw went hunting alone.

Only four moons after being apprenticed, Birchpaw was made a warrior for killing a fox that nearly killed Sunleap, thus accepting the name, Birchleaf. While Nightpaw was happy for his adopted littermate, Icepaw was jealous and furious. The following night, Icepaw lured Sunleap out of camp with the excuse of a badger on SilverClan territory, and drowned her in the lake, making the excuse that the badger killed her. Leopardpaw, who was passing through the area at the time, saw the entire thing, and reported it to Birchleaf at their next meeting. Birchleaf reported it to Marshstar, who drove Icepaw out of the Clan. Icepaw, however, was reluctant to leave until she swore revenge on her foster sister.

A couple of moons later, Nightpaw is made a warrior, taking the name Nightfall, and Birchleaf receives her first apprentice, Bronzepaw. She also discovers that she is carrying Leopardpaw's kits, and, while worried about how she would explain them to the Clan, was overjoyed and eager to tell Leopardpaw. However, before she can tell Leopardpaw the news, he tells Birchleaf that he is returning to DawnClan, and they can no longer see each other. Not waiting for answer, he padded over to DawnClan's territory. Birchleaf was shocked, but continues with her normal life. Bronzepaw eventually becomes Bronzefur, and cats start noticing BirchLeaf's enlarged belly. She simply says that she does not want to reveal the father, and no one questions this. Despite her noticeable pregnancy, Marshstar still promotes her as deputy after the then-current deputy retires to the elder's den.

One night, a huge dam bursts to the north of the lake. The entire territory is badly flooded, and many SilverClan cats die, including the medicine cat, Thorncloud, Rocktalon, and Marshstar himself. The Clan is forced to move to an old Twoleg nest a little to the northeast of the Clan territories where the water level isn't as high. BirchLeaf does not get a chance to go to Moonpool before her kits come. The new medicine cat, Lavendertail, helps her through her long labor and Spottedclaw successfully births two kits: a black tom, and a she-cat that looks exactly like her mother. She doesn't even have time to name them before DawnClan, now taken over by Icepaw, invades the nest. Both sides suffer heavy losses, and Birchleaf is almost killed by her former mate, now known as Tigerheart, while he is crazed by the adrenaline of battle. During the battle, a vicious thunderstorm breaks out and lightning strikes the Twoleg nest and it catches fire. Nightfall kills Icepaw by throwing his sister into the fire. The den begins to collapse, and Birchleaf is desperate to rescue her kits, who were being protected by Lavendertail. Spottedclaw makes it inside, but Lavendertail pushes her back out as debris began to fall. Spottedclaw is devastated that her kits and medicine cat our probably dead, but Lavendertail manages to crawl out with the she-kit and tom. Her tail had gotten stuck under the falling board, and she had somehow ripped off her own tail in order to get out of the nest. Birchleaf named the she-kit Gustkit and the tom Scorchkit, as she notices that one of his eyes has soot all in it. Afterwars, the floodwaters die down, and Birchleaf gains her nine lives, becoming Birchleaf, and naming Silvernose as her deputy.
