- @DA:
Also, please remember to keep in mind that different people make user of different advantages, and what you might think as an advantage to one might be appear vice-versa to another user. Much of what we do is aimed at creating opportunities for people of every skill.
Some users are not entirely social, and so getting referrals is difficult; for those that perhaps aren't good at coding or form-writing, getting stubs through RU and Special Mention trade-ins or winning a viscet in a competition would be equally difficult. For those that might struggle in competitions, simply purchasing things might be their best option, and so DA sales permit that. For those on CS, we try to keep a variety of competitions to appeal to people of all skills without being too easy--hence nonowner/nonowner-favoring competitions, the weekly nonowner raffle, simple name/song/gif comps, DTAs, story-writing, etc. In the past I'd received concerns--mainly towards the beginning of the species, but moreso recently since we have been working on improving the DA community--about how they would be purchasable somehow for any set price, as not all people are well with the competitive ambience of CS adoptions and would prefer a simple purchase.
I would also like to include: MYO tickets, unlike Viscets, can be resold/traded freely for whatever (so long as it is not more than what it was purchased for to begin with). Part of the intention of opening MYOs on DA was to help put them into circulation, and I'm totally fine with someone buying a MYO ticket with points and then trading it away for something else (perhaps more readily available, such as pets, C$, etc). Viscet staff can also do this, but I just personally do not in any official way because the values of pets/C$ can vary greatly from person to person, unlike DA points which have a relatively consistent value.
You could very well say that CS adoptions favor artists, coders, or those who speak English well, which not everyone can do. For people like these, DA sales could be their best option. Little changes we make are without consideration for what would be best for the community, and for this reason feedback is always welcomed. If you do have any concerns, you can always send me a PM or even anon me on tumblr if that makes you more comfortable.
