@Castlee ~ I'm sorry to hear that you're leaving CS again. :( I wish you the very best of luck in all of your future endeavors though. :3

@gay ~ Haha. XD That's her normal beanie that's part of her design. XD It was literally the only accessory on her that I didn't color in with a brush on GIMP. I just used the gradient fill tool and set it to rainbow. XD Actually, I love how it turned out. :3 This picture actually marks my very first time ever drawing a beanie. :3

@Sparkyy ~ Thank you! ♥

@Demzee ~ Thank you very much! ♥ Haha, my signature was actually originally inspired, oddly enough, by the cruelty free symbol that some makeup packages have to show that their products are not tested on animals. I couldn't actually master the whole heart-as-ears-thing, so I gave up on it and it has become what it is now. XD

Which site do you prefer using for characters? Sta.sh, Charahub, Weebly/Wix/Other Website, or Toyhou.se?
Ugh...toughie. I've explored the use of most of those websites. I do love Charahub and Toyhou.se, but they don't offer the same about of customization as weebly does. I dunno why, but I just love being able to have a header image. XD
Also, with weebly or wix, you can do more without having to spend anything.
I liked Charahub for it's built-in questions that can help you develop a character, but I disliked how you can only store a certain number of characters on there without having to purchase more slots. Also, you can only upload 10 pieces of art per character, so if you have a character exceeding that amount, you'd have to buy into the site in order to unlock more slots or whatever to include all their art. I've also noticed that there's a fair amount of times when the website is down.
Toyhou.se is nice, if you can get one. Since it's in...what is it? Beta? And you can only get an account either by a really nice user willing to give you a referral code for free, or purchasing it from someone who is selling them.
I don't use Sta.sh because I hardly ever use my dA account because not much happens over there. XD

Have you ever gone back to an old character and try to write for them again? If so, how easy or difficult was it for you to go back to the mindset you had when you first wrote about them?
It seems to depend based on the character...and the length of time that has passed since writing for the character. XD

What character was the hardest for you to get back into the mindset of writing for?
Probably Nitika Kumari, my female anthro white tiger. I wanted to re-write her story that I wrote for her when I applied for her from the Pound of Hope and go more in depth and then continue it, but I wrote that story back in August of 2012. XD Also, I write while I had the song "Come Wake Me Up" by Rascal Flatts stuck in my head. XD

What do you enjoy most when you're developing characters?
I love it when I get good inspiration to help me and it's like...really good inspiration and I just get swept away in the development process because of how amazing the idea is and I want to get it all down before I forget a single detail of it. XD
I also love it when I get hit with development inspiration that I can use for a character that has been gathering dust for awhile.
Case in point: Reggy! ♥
Reggy was gathering dust for a long time. And I mean a long time. Partly because I purchased him, but I couldn't have him yet because the person I bought him from wanted to make a new reference for him, and partly because I didn't know what to do with him now that I had him. XD Plus, my original concept for him sucked. I originally planned on him either being a fan of Harry Potter, or being the pet of a student at Hogwarts.
I have to say that when I got struck by the idea of him actually being a student at Hogwarts who is an animagus, I was floored by the idea and I was like...YES! XD Then I began obsessively developing him to the point where he is now one of my most well-developed characters I own that isn't part of an adoptable species or was adopted from an adoption agency. XD

I've tried toyhou.se and I just hated the entire process of uploading characters one by one. And they HAD to have creators, so basically any character that was basically "artist unknown" couldn't be put on. I've never used Wix or Charahub but I hear that Charahub limits how many chars you can upload? Someone can correct me on that If I'm wrong. And then I've just never tried wix. I personally stuff all my char refs in sta.sh when I go to commission people or do request journals but all my development, and art, and stuff is on a weebly which is hidden from everyone aha
Not very active here, you can find me other places though!

I prefer to use Weebly since I only have one site and I can easily upload art like that.
Plus I can make it all pretty and such for each character<3

Also bought this amazing outfit for Kentari from Hassly on DA
If anyone is good at drawing humans and has photoshop or a similar program - I have a non-mannequin version that I want Kentari drawn into <3
I have permission to do so by Hassly:3 SO pm me if you can and want to<3

Also got this amazing sketch page of Kentari from Reydant

I prefer using Sta.sh, because no one really has permission to go into your sta.sh unless you give them permission ;o;
I'm one of those people who's afraid of having art theft/character theft and I like to keep my characters in a secret/safe place ;`;

I also wanted to tell you guys that i'm really determined to make some progress of being productive

One of those steps are - Making a lineart on oekaki for my digi-dogs! yaaaay!
Next up, I'm making some free avatars here if anyone is interested~! annnnnd I'm making free art for really anyone, because I want to be productive.

@ Emilia - I wish I had enough points ;o; those babs are precious
@ Demzee - GOSH DARNIT! I really hope those adopts sell soon and quickly.
@ Sparkyy - aaaaa so cute i might explode. i'd get one if I had enough points ;o;
@ Batman - I love that character omg ;~; and the outfit is gorgeous!

ooh! I almost forgot to mention, that I am taking offers on some of my side characters but beware, i'm very very picky on Sky.

Hello guys! I want to get into the re-sell business but I'm so iffy about doing it so I have a question~

Code: Select all
Is it okay to resell an adopt you bought if the user does not state no-resells in their rules?

If so, is it okay to resell for a higher price if you have put effort into making it look better, i.e. by adding accessories, re-drawing on custom lines, or re-vamping it?

What sort of program do you use to Crop Out a character you bought from a sheet adopt? Why that program and do you have any tips?
I usually use picmonkey(.com). Then if there's a part of the adopt next to/above/below it, I open Krita (same program I draw with) and erase that part.

Which site do you prefer using for characters? Sta.sh, Charahub, Weebly/Wix/Other Website, or Toyhou.se?
-I don't consider Sta.sh a character site. I consider it a place to store unfinished art/art I don't feel like uploading.

-Charahub is amazing in terms of the things it offers for character development and layout, and it's pretty easy to organize your characters, but it goes down a lot which sucks when you need to access references of your characters, or want to work on their development. Also, just about anyone can take your characters references and art.

-Weebly/Wix/Other- Like Charahub, it makes it easier for others to download your character art and references, which is something I'm very paranoid about. Also, I used to use them for a couple years, and it would take hours to get the site looking nice. While I do like the customization, I just don't have the time to do that. [Example of a site I put together: here]

-This brings me to the last one, Toyhou.se which I currently use. While the site isn't exactly "pretty," there's plenty of customization options if you know how to code. It's much easier to link to the design creator/artist and displays it right on the character's page. You can transfer characters to other members within seconds. And my favorite part about it, it allows you to add a watermark to all of your character's references and art. You can create a custom watermark (the one I currently use reads "Property Of Darth-Dukes"), or if you don't have a custom one, you can use the default one. Which can still be just as effective when you consider that if someone owns a character, the art they have of them most likely doesn't contain a toyhou.se watermark.

So, after all of this, I must say that Toyhou.se is my favorite, with Charahub in a close second.

If it's transparent, I used Photoshop. Otherwise just MS Paint is quickest for me. I don't really have any "tips", just square select > crop.

Which site do you prefer using for characters? Sta.sh, Charahub, Weebly/Wix/Other Website, or Toyhou.se?
Toyhou.se by a long shot. I used to use Weebly, but uploading new art/characters and updating their profiles was always so cumbersome I often times just didn't bother. For Toyhou.se you just fill out the forms, pop in the link to the artist's profile and you're good. Weebly is a lot easier to customize without any coding knowledge, but you can still do a lot with toyhou.se even without a premium. It has a lot of good features for protecting your characters too, like automatically adding a watermark or hiding them completely from anyone who you haven't specifically given authorization to view. I tried Charahub once but it's really...not that great. If you're looking for an alternative for Weebly I definitely would recommend giving Toyhou.se a shot (lmao I'm basically just a TH advertisement now but seriously I really love it). It's still in closed alpha but at this point codes are in such a huge surplus a lot of people can't get rid of them fast enough even just giving them out for free.

Is it okay to resell an adopt you bought if the user does not state no-resells in their rules?
If in doubt you can always ask the artist, but generally if they don't make a rule against reselling you should be fine.

If so, is it okay to resell for a higher price if you have put effort into making it look better, i.e. by adding accessories, re-drawing on custom lines, or re-vamping it?
As long as the artist doesn't disallow it, it should be fine. People often charge more for characters with extra art, so this isn't too different. I think the only time someone would get flak for selling at a higher price would be if they didn't do anything extra with it and basically just bought it to immediately flip it for a higher price without putting work into it. Again, if you're ever unsure, you can always ask the artist.

      i use stash if i'm feeling lazy/just need to get the characters stuff out of my files so i can organize
      things, but when i feel fancy and feel like working i use weebly as it lets you code, allows art storage, and
      unlimited words. it's really nice, but lags a little if you have too many pages {i have 108 character pages and only
      occasionally freezes}

I got an idea for a character that I actually like! (Never happens...) Okay, I am taking offers for him on Deviantart, but I am only looking for points (can't take USD yet) or maybe other characters. Mostly points though. I may or may not sell him. We'll see. (Click image to go to page)

I use sta.sh to store art and art credit for my characters, solely because its quick and easy to upload to. Yet when making personality, sexuality, ad gender information for my characters, I use Weebly.

Image
Molis, a character I had traditionally sketched, was digitized yesterday. ( Art and design by me )

Image
I then decided to separate one side and shade it using my new style. ( Art by me )

I'm taking art trades and I opened my commissions.

I no longer play chickensmoothie as actively as before,
so messages will be slow.

I'm willing to trade my pets for art and /
or characters, in large offers. Just send me a mess-
