Delta Velorum Foxes are tall looking foxes that are only located on the remote planet of Delta Velorum.

Standing between 2 - 2 1/2 feet at the should, Delta Velorum Foxes are very tall in appearance compared to Red Foxes on Earth. They tend to be long legged in appearance and are well known for their endurance and agility. Males tend to be more muscular then females while female are more slender and elegant in appearance. A Delta Foxes fur tends to be very soft and short, and come in a wide variety of natural colors. It is not uncommon to see them in roans and dun colors similar to horses and are commonly seen in cat colors and patterns as well (such as calico, tabby, bengal markings ect). However the combination of colors and patterns are limitless, and each Delta Velorum Fox is different from the next. No two are ever the same in looks. Delta Velorum Foxes can come in any eye color and combination - no matter if it's natural or unnatural. A fox with two or more eye colors (known as Heterochromia) is uncommon but not unheard of.

After a few quick goodbyes to a few friends and family members, and picking up some food and water for the trip, you head out onto the trail. There's a few foxes, too, travelling on the same road, but most seem to prefer to keep themselves to themselves. You wonder what's in store, as the sun begins to rise, and silhouettes stand out against the fading tangerine skies. As you begin to get into a comfortable pace, you notice that some of the foxes have stopped and are huddled together, heads bent slightly, and expressions passionate. Once you get close enough, you hear a few scraps of their conversation and realize they're arguing over the path's split;
"The left side has those spooky mountains in the distance! Why would you want to go over there?!"
"But have you even seen the other side? I don't like the look of that forest, who knows what's lying in wait for us!"

There are other opinions, but they're mostly drowned out, and you are forced to choose, for if you want to get to camp before it gets properly dark, you'd better make a decision quickly!

Left [X]
or right? []

[X]: Left Path
I sat there, quietly listening to the conversation currently going on. The sky was growing ever darker with every passing moment, if I waited too long then darkness would fall. The mountains to the left were said to be spooky and someone else didn't fancy the look of the woods. Both of them sounded interesting at the very least. I weighed both options for a moment or two before getting to my paws and striding forward in the direction of the leftmost trail. Spooky mountains sounded like good fun!

[+5 gems for completing the first checkpoint]

The path starts with a steep slope that winds its way through bushes and various plants, there are a few stunted trees, and the occasional evergreen, but it's mostly open. As you're walking, you notice huge black clouds shadowing the trail and the wind has begun to pick up. The wind was strong, potentially strong enough to knock you to the deep ravines on either side, and the rain had advanced from a fine drizzle to cold, heavy drops that soaked your pelt and chilled you to your bone. You look desperately around for some kind of shelter but the exposure of the trail greets you with no place to hide, and you had decided to ignore the fox trying to sell you that cloak. Now you wish that you had bought it, no matter how untrustworthy he had seemed.

[] Keep warm with your cloak and protect yourself from most of the rain.
[X] Due to the lack of a cloak, you have gained a the sniffles (common cold). + 10 words to your minimum.

You continue, however, through the mountainous terrain and as you're trodding through the wet, you notice a narrow trail to your left. It's obvious someone uses it frequently as the earth is shallower and worn away by paws. Will you continue through the main trail, or hope that the side trail will be shorter?

[X] Turn away from the main trail and take the side path.
[] Ignore the side path and continue to the next checkpoint.

[X] Turn away from the main trail and take the side path.

It had grown both steadily darker and colder as I ascended the mountain trail. The slight tingle in the back of my throat would be a lingering soreness come morning, a sure sign that my earlier foolishness had cost me. I shivered violently as a strong gust of wind blew fiercely at me, chilling my rain soaked body as I strained to push onward and not end up in either of the ravines either side of the trail. Pausing I glanced at the spot where a split in the path meant another choice. I examined both options for a good long moment, thinking hard. Perhaps there was something down the side path that might aid me even taking the other path meant I'd reach the checkpoint faster.

[+14 gems for completing the checkpoint.]

The path is thin, and you have to force and weave your way between menacing-looking outcrops of rock, and of course the steep drops on either side. It winds and twists and sometimes you wonder whether this was a good choice after all. The rain is splashing down hard now, and you pick up your pace, eager to find some shelter. Suddenly, just as you begin running, a front paw meets open air and, looking down, you're on the edge of a large cliff where the soft, clay soil has crumbled away. You back up quickly, wishing to avoid falling and hurting yourself in someway.

[X] Turn around and make your way back to the next checkpoint.

Somehow taking this side path had begun to feel like the wrong idea. Couldn't hurt to follow it, I hoped. The trail was considerably narrower than the main path and the sudden popping up of weird outcrops of rock that I had weave through was hideous. Not to mention the ever present steep drops on either side. Freezing rain wasn't doing much to help matters either. I broke into a run hoping to find shelter and narrowly avoided careening off of a cliff with crumbled edges. Turning back had just become a necessity.

I shuddered and turned back, winding my way along the trail and returning at slower pace than the dash I had just performed. The tingle in my throat was now becoming a slight burn, a sure way to drop my formerly quite cheerful mood.

[+14 gems for completing the checkpoint]

Once you stumble and drag yourself back through the trail, you look around for the familiar wooden stake that signalled the next checkpoint. You find it and flop down next to it, taking a brief rest after doubling back on the trail. As you catch your breath, you notice a small, well-hidden path leading off to one side, weaving between large natural stone pillars.

[] Ignore Side Path and continue ahead to the next checkpoint
[X] Take the side path and see where it will lead.

[X] Take the side path and see where it will lead.

I flopped down by the stake, resting my weary body for a moment or two while I got myself a small break. After a moment I looked up and blinked upon noticing a small well worn path that wound between two tremendous naturally formed stone pillars.

"Curiouser and curiouser" I muttered from my spot by the stake and swung my gaze to the main path. What would be the more interesting opportunity, following the main path or taking another side trail. Sighing I got up and made way toward the pillars, this would be the way, hopefully I would not encounter any more near misses with cliffs.
