Why isn't she smiling?: ayah isn't smiling because she's just in a different reality; she's commonly dreaming about different lands where dragons and magical beings rule and where she has wings. just because there isn't a foolish grin on her face, doesn't mean she's not happy. inside her overflooded mind, she's a happy and bubbly mess, it's just a rare occasion to see it on the outside because she doesn't even notice reality is actually there when she's lost in a forest of fantasy.

Why isn't she smiling?: Thyme never really figured herself a grumpy person. She'd heard it all her life, and it rubbed her the wrong way. Perhaps it was the way his features rested, or something underlying in her expression, but she wasn't ever a bitter girl; people just seemed to think so from glancing her. She didn't understand it, honestly; and that fact made her even more annoyed. Thyme would try to approach others only to give off the wrong vibes unintentionally, and despite pleasant small talk it seemed others were just naturally intimidated by her. She wasn't a big gal, or a mean one; so she didn't know what the issue was. She figured out eventually, through asking others, that she gave off an impression of being stronger and a bit easy to annoy; so people figured she was a grump, and a menacing one at that. Thyme made attempts to try and better her behavior, but in the end it seemed whatever was driving others away continued to do so. Ultimately this made Thyme upset and likely contributed to her grouchy attitude and lack of a prominent smile. She's still a sweet-hearted individual, but she finds trouble talking to others without worrying about scaring them off.

More or less, the fact that she seems grouchy. The idea that others see her as scary or grumpy makes her upset, so she frowns a bit more often because of it. there's nothing actually wrong with her, and she smiles; though sparingly. Her smiles are hard to come by, but sincere; saved for the most meaningful occasions.
